Don't know how reliable this is, but an active duty member told me the alcohol restriction would be lifted this week and the curfew delayed to midnight a week or so after. But I don't know the guy personally, just happened to be chatting with him and he mentioned it.

I would rather have it the other way around...

After a drunk driving fatality, I doubt that it would be lifted this week.

I hope the same thing that happened to "BC Street" happens to Gate 2. I mean, hasn't Okinawa exceeded its ability to sustain multiple "Urban/Hip-hop" clothing stores and $9 Budweiser bars? I know it will make me sound like an old fuddy-duddy (actually, saying "fuddy-duddy" makes me sound like a "fuddy-duddy"), but there's so much more to do here than Gate 2 street.

The Orion Beer Fest in Okinawa City is usually around late August/early September. The is two others. One in Naha, and one in Nago. The Naha one is usually first.

I hope that more bands come out and play on Gate 2 Street. Many people on Okinawa (Okinawans included), like the live music scene. But half the fun of going to a live music club is other people being there and having fun. With "loud noises' and "more cow bell". When so many people that like live music, are not allowed to go to those places, it is quite boring. I agree there is way more to do on Okinawa than just Gate 2 Street. I do more fun stuff in a week than some barracks rats do during thier entire tour. But I also like live music and seeing people dance and have fun. And as far the "Urban/Hip-hop" clothing stores , some of those places have been here a long time and have some very nice clothes. Yeah, there a a bit too many of them, but many are owned by the same folks, who are just trying to make a living like anyone else. It may not be for everybody, but the people that like it miss it !

Good points. Definitely. I think turning Gate 2 into a "walking street", like Kokusai on Sundays, would be a great idea.

How about turn BC street and the North side of Gate 2 street into a park with a stage. Then you can get rid of some of this concrete in Okinawa, add some green and still have the bands and a place to gather.

hmmmm....thats a good idea, 'cept on rainy days and winter. You still need some live houses.

Only for rainy days...for winter you could have fire pits. Controlled areas for fires. Makes for a good time. Of course with all of the trouble with young service members, they would have to be secured when not in use.
Use the South side of Gate 2 street for live houses.

You know there's a lot of those rainy days.:D Of course that just means we'll have lots of mud pits. Those make for some good concert fun.:w00t:

Rainy days, are good as well for some other activities. Can't mention them on the Forums, but they don't include shopping, or getting out of bed.:old:

Would that be the fire pits or the young service members needing to be secured?

Possibly both, but I was referring to the fire pits.
