I have seen a thread or two about online degrees, and some good info from Ian about them as well. I was wanting to get into the mechanical engineering field, and want to know a good place to start. My work schedule is 1130am-830pm with Fri/Sat off. Are the online degrees viable? Some of these just reek of cash schemes. Example.. http://www.instantdegrees.com/
Others are less obvious of course, but I don't want to get suckered into a degree that will get me nowhere, and drain my wallet in the process.

I found its cheaper to go to school where your home state is to get discounts. My tuition was free for being a WA resident!!

Tani, it will be difficult to get an engineering degree online, but not impossible. One thing that you would be wise to do would be to go locally (UMUC, Central Texas) and knock out the essentials (English, Humanities, etc...) before locking into the online training at another school.

I notice Penn Foster has a mechanical engineering course, but there is conflicting info online about them as well. I recieved their brochure for electronic and mechanical degrees. They look good, but I'm not sure.

Engineering Technology is not an Engineering degree Tani...very important to pay attention to the wording.
Get into an exciting career. With your Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, you'll be qualified for entry-level jobs in drafting, machine designing, tool designing, and other technical areas.
Entry level in tool designing....you could be a qualified welder for that position! Think hard before deciding where to spend your money.
