View Full Version : Monkey Bananas or Imported Bananas from the Philipines?

In Okinawa we have these locally grown mini bananas that are sometimes referred to as monkey bananas. I mean they are small. Like almost not bigger than you middle finger. And of course we also have imported bananas from the Philipines which are quite large.
I have heard that the monkey bananas are more nutritious once per once, but am not really sure about that. I do know, though, that I like them better. I think they have a richer and slightly sweeter taste than the Philipine bananas. The monkey bananas are also a little expensive.
Have you tried them? Do you eat them regularly? What do you think about them? Which of the two kinds of bananas here in Okinawa do you prefer and eat most often?
I like the monkey bananas, but only recently have started eating them. What about you?

Where i live we have both... and i gotta say... when i'm craving bananas....theres nothing like taking bread...toast it...putting penut butter... slicing bananas... puting them on top of the penut butter...sprinkle sugar... fold in half...and serve with a big damn glass of milk!!!!!! no matter what kind of bananas! lol
I've had both, but I prefer the big ones. We had a banana tree in my front yard for a few years when I was a kid. The bananas weren't bad, but like I said, I've always been more fond of the big ones.
They make good toy guns too.

Tal, you are like the 3rd person I have now known who makes those banana peanut butter concoctions on bread. I never knew of that where I grew up, and only a few months ago tried it myself. I didn't like bread and banana together.
Though I do spread peanut butter on bananas and eat that.
@dk
The large bananas are just too much for me I've decided. Like a brick sitting in my stomach.

Have you tried sharing half with your wife? :p
Yeah they are big. And I only eat them every now and then. Usually my wife makes a nice healthy banana milkshake for me. Now THAT'S how you eat a banana.

Oh definitely! If we are talking milkshakes, then yes, the bigger ones are the way to go. Nothing beats a banana milk shake. I can make a wikid one. Throw some peanut butter in the mixer with it and that gives it a banana peanut butter flavor. Hmmmm...good! And goooood for ya! And instead of milk, make it with tonyu (soy drink).

That's probably not bad. I'll have to try adding some peanut butter to mine next time.

Stay here, Tal, with the banana talk. It is the kinder choice -- no cruelty involved.
Yeah, dropping a banana into a glass cup with razor sharp knives at the bottom isn't cruel. Whatever. That banana had family.

Wouldn't that be mass murder in TP's world? Not to mention cruelty by making the others watch the executions!
No, my way would be cruelty. With what talindra's saying, you murder them all at once. How can they watch each other getting murdered when the blender is spinning so dizzyingly fast!

No they don't. Hearing and pain requires a nervous system to send the signals to a processing center. Bananas don't have that.

Yes, I am a banana. My peely skins are typing on the keyboard as we speak. I am telling you -- we do not hear, think, feel, or see. How do you know that I don't know all that?

You are mistaken. Hearing and pain for humans and animals require a nervous system. Plants are very different and often misunderstood. We cannot attribute something as non-feeling and stupid simply because it is different!
No they don't.
And yes they do.
You're not a banana! I've played chess with you!

I am a banana from another dimension. The normal ideas of what you think of as your senses do not apply to me and my sockwearing banana brothers.

Until it is known, the defalt is that the assertion is not so. To suggest otherwise is known in logic as "appeal to ignorance." It is a fallacy.
Get your own blender! Or use a heavy book!

There is no blender built strong enough to handle this rock hard banana with moveable peels for keyboard typing.

I've known many bananas over the years. I served with a few great ones in Nam. And they all had sonar.

Those were false bananas. Do not follow false bananas. The Great Banana does not like that. We do not have sonar. If you persist in spreadingn lies about bananas, The One will leave itself in your path so that you will slip like they do in the toons, and break your back.

I've lost to worse. Nothing is more humiliating than losing in a game of chess against a bell pepper.

It should have the opposite effect. They recommend bananas as the first thing to feed a kid with diarrhea or such gastrointestinal issue.
(Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast some recommend yogurt too)
An average sized banana contains about 3 grams of fiber and a regular diet should contain 25-40 grams
So you have some leeway. *Smile*

Is this just the thread for the crazy people, cos I don't know if I'm quite there yet.
I eat lots of bananas - they are cheap, filling, and good for you when you have bathroom troubles. S
Don't like the monkey one's much though, they're sweeet.

You know I have never tried the monkey ones....not a banana fan so rarely eat even the regular ones and the little ones look like little mutant banana's. :)
