Do you prefer fast and easy or does it matter? I know you have 6-8 to feed and just wondered if you wanted me to list any labor intensive recipes.

Food (http://www.japanupdate.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2621&highlight=recipes)
There are a bunch of recipes and ideas on this thread. Some simple some a bit harder. WHy not check it out.
Oh and if it was me....I'd be running to San Ei and buying the prepacked curry that costs 98¥ per pack and getting the rice cooker fired up.
Walla...instant supper, healthy and tastes pretty good too. All else fails, go to my other standby.....BEER for everyone. Works everytime.

Chicken Breast Surprise (*)
350* 1 1/2-2 hrs
1 can Cream of Chicken Soup
1 can Cream of Celery Soup
1 small can Evaporated Milk
3/4C Rice
4-6 Chicken Breast, Boneless
1 envelope Lipton Onion Soup Mix
Preheat oven. Mix soups, milk, and rice well in greased 13x9 baking dish. Arrange chicken on top if rice mixture and then sprinkle with dry Onion Soup Mix. Cover w/ foil and bake. Stir half way through cook time by removing chicken off the top of the rice and stirring rice mix. Place chicken back on top and recover with foil. If rice starts to dry out, add chicken broth.
Note:
When I make this, I usually double the rice mixture to easily serve 6-8. This is a family favorite. Broccoli or a salad goes well as a side.

My mom made sticky rice (almost gone been eating it) and she is also making Khoob poob! Khoob poob = curry noodle soup.
The sauce base is coconut and curry, and you pour it over the noodles and add cilantro and basil to it. The flavors itself is unbelievable! I always stuff myself to the max whenever my mom cooks it!

Grilled Chicken with Spicy Brazilian Tomato and Coconut Sauce
1. Ingredients
4 tablespoons cooking oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 (3 pound) chicken, quartered
3/4 teaspoon salt
Fresh-ground pepper
1 onion, chopped
1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
2 jalapeno peppers, seeds and ribs removed, minced
1 1/4 cups canned crushed tomatoes in thick puree
1 cup canned unsweetened coconut milk
2 tablespoons chopped cilantro or parsley
2. Cooking DirectionsLight the grill. In a shallow dish, combine 3 tablespoons of the oil with two-thirds of the minced garlic. Coat the chicken with half of the garlic oil and season with 1/4 teaspoon of the salt and 1/8 teaspoon pepper. Grill the chicken over moderately high heat, basting with the remaining garlic oil, until just done, about 10 minutes per side for the breasts, 13 for the legs.
Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon oil over moderately low heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the remaining garlic, the ginger, and the jalapenos, and cook, stirring, for 1 minute longer. Add the tomatoes, the coconut milk, the remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt, and a pinch of pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, until thickened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the cilantro and serve with the chicken.

Pork and Ginger Pot Stickers (***)
---------------------------------------
Pork and Ginger Filling:
2C Finely Shredded or Chopped Cababge (I use pre-shredded from Commissary)
1/2T Salt
1/2lb Ground Pork
2T Minced Garlic
2T Minced Ginger
2T Soy Sauce
3T Sesame Oil
1 Egg
1-2C Chicken Stock
Sprinkle cabbage with 1/2T of salt and let stand 30 min. Place cabbage in a clean dish towel or cheese cloth and wring dry. The dryer the better! In a large bowl combine cabbage with everything else except Chicken Stock.
----------------------------------
Hot Water Dough
4C All-purpose Flour
1/2t Salt
1 1/2- 1 3/4C Boiling Water
In a stainless steel mixing bowl, mix flour and salt. Slowly add hot water to four in 1/4C increments. Mix with chopsticks until a ball is formed and the dough is not too hot to handle. On a floured surface, knead the dough until it becomes a smooth, elastic ball. Place back in bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Allow to rest fro at least 1 hr.
Working on a floured surface with floured hands, roll dough to form one long "noodle" about 1-1 1/2" in diameter. Cut into 1/2" pieces and turn them over so cut side is facing up. Flatten with you palm and the roll out using a rolling pin. The wrapper should end up being 2 1/2-3" in diameter.
--------------------------------------
Making Dumplings:
Place a small mound, 1/2-1T, of filling in the middle of the wrapper. (Be very careful not to get filling on the outside edges on the wrapper. Filling on the outside edges may cause them to break apart.) Fold the wrapper in half to form a half moon. Starting on one edge, fold and pinch edges together in like a pie crust fashion until dumpling is sealed. Pinch very tightly! Continue with rest of the wrappers and mix. Rest dumplings fold side up.
---------------------------------------------------
Cooking Dumplings:
In a large hot saute pan coated well with oil, place pot stickers flat side (bottom side, non fold side) down and cook until the bottom is brown. Watch carefully but do not worry too much about dumpling sticking. Have pan cover ready and add 1C Chicken Stock, cover immediately. Liquid will splatter! Let the stock steam the pot stickers. Check them in 5 min and add more stock if needed. The trick is to cook the dumplings until they are firm and fully cooked but let the stock evaporate to let bottoms of the dumpling crisp back up.
Plate with cabbage leaves lining the plate. Serve with a salad and dip dumplings in dipping sauce.
------------------------------------------------
Dipping Sauce:
1/3C Medium Thin Soy Sauce (I like using the pre-mixed Kikoman used for sushi and sashimi)
1T Rice Vinegar
1/3C Green Onion
3t Minced Garlic
3t Minced ginger
1t Sesame Oil
Mix well and enjoy.
Note: Labor intensive but well worth it! I need to make these again soon!

Barbecued Salmon Surfer Style with Mango-Habanero Salsa Recipe
4-5 salmon steaks/fillets
Teriyaki sauce:
3 tablespoons soy sauce
3 tablespoons sake
2 tablespoons sugar (or use mirin and reduce the sake)
stir to dissolve the sugar
1. Marinate the salmon in the teriyaki sauce 30 minutes.
2. Remove the salmon and heat the sauce slowly to thicken it.
3. Broil or pan-fry the salmon with just a little oil. Don't overcook - thin steaks will be well cooked in about 1 munute per side.
4. Pour the thickened sauce over the salmon. That's it!

Yep Steve, I just smoked about 20lbs up! Selling them for $15lb! Let me know if you want to try some!
Man first lunch time here with the sandwich thing...now dinner. I think I gained about 10lbs today from reading about the food today.:first: :-|
One of my quicky favorites.....
Cut up 3 or 4 Chicken thighs.
(If you are worried about cholestral take off the skin. If you want that great flavor leave them on:thumbup:)
Fry off until the skin is golden brown. (No oil is necessary as the chicken has plenty of fat on it.)
While the chicken is frying, shredd about 100gr of sharp cheddar cheese.
Sliced cheese is a fair subsitute.
Put all the chicken into a microwaveable/grillable dish.
Pour about 100ml of your favorite kimuchee sauce over the chicken, top with the cheese and ......chin.....until the cheese is melted.
Great snack with beer.
For other topppings only your imagination is the limit.

Tell me about it!!:cursing: :cursing:
I am tired of coming up with things to cook and hate to cook the same thing although I know hubby and kid will eat it. Maybe instead of coming up with things to cook all the time...we should rotate cooking and coming up with what to cook. Sometimes when I have no clue what to cook I ask the hubby what he wants or feels like eating..and then he gives me the response "I'll eat watever you cook"!! :cursing: :cursing: Alright...RAMEN NOODLES!!
I'll try to post some recipe later for yah though.

Here's an easy way to make pulled pork.
Buy the cubed pork at the commissary and one bottle of mojo marinade. You don't need the whole bottle just enough to cover. Marinate over night and then place the pork in a crockpot w/o the juices, the fat will help break up the meat. Go to work, comeback and then use a strainer to drain the fat while breaking up the meat with tongs. Turn fry pan on high and put what ever sauce you want. Done. I fry cabbage and then add the meat. Sometimes I put BBQ sauce and eat with bread, sloppy joes.
