Injuring 23? Wow, must have been worse than I thought.

Wow, what a typhoon. I didn't expect it to be so bad. We were lucky though. Although we're on the ninth floor and more or less on the Pacific ocean near the Gushikawa Jusco, we only had a bit of water come in through cracks in the window and door seams. We lost power for about five minutes around 2300 on Friday. The fancy so-called fiberoptic DSL whatever internet also cut out on Friday. We also lost my husband's ashtray that was tied to the concrete balcony with wire. oops...

It could've been worse considering:
Our neighbor across the street lost the tin roof to his barn.
My mom in Kitanakagusuku-son lost power and a good part of her garden.
I saw a van next to the Legion gate tipped over onto its side.
The streets were littered with everything from car parts to the tops of trees, trunks and all.
My husband's coworker had her windows blown out during the typhoon. It rained in the house ruining pretty much everything.
I know another guy who had the hood of his car go through the car's windshield. Our friend lost his front gate door. My coworker lost her satellite dish.
Our other neighbor lost his satellite dish, bamboo window screens and whatever plants were outside.
The pachinko parlor (casino) down the street had its decorative metal palm trees toppled.

Come to think of it, we haven't seen the neighbors' dogs since the typhoon. Even the Jusco was closed during the typhoon. When the locals close during regular business hours for a typhoon, the typhoon is big. The only folks we saw out during the typhoon were the drifters racing laps on the roads between us and the ocean.

We'll all be overly prepared for the next typhoon, and it'll probably be a piddly one at best. Ha!

My friends house is almost entirely made of glass, and they lost about 10 ft. of one of their walls during the middle of the storm. They've been pretty busy today!

I'm just amazed whenever I read typhoon reports. After 24 years, I've been through PLENTY of typhoons. Never had broken windows. Never seen a typhoon injury. About the worst I've ever seen from a typhoon in my own personal experience over these years is that the banana tree we had in my yard when I was a kid got uprooted.

This typhoon went smooth for us. No lost electricity. No lost internet. Even our sky perfect worked the whole time. Just a day off work as usual.

Actually the house is brilliant. The only reason he had a problem was there was a drastic pressure change...which popped a section of the glass. But I understand what you are saying. The house has been there 8 years and never a problem until now.

A slightly cracked window usually is enough to relieve pressure from these kinds of storm systems.

We have lots of windows as well, and most of ours stayed cracked open since we don't use any AC. No problems with the pressure with our windows.

Feel sorry for those who had windows blown out during the storm. That would just suck to have rain spraying in for hours and hours.

Was told a body washed up on the beach at Torii. Might have been a surfer seen earlier trying to surf the big swells.

ew, bummer... dead body. we know a seasoned surfer who works with my husband. we told him about how good the surf and stuff looked, but he said the winds were too strong to surf. this is a man who takes his boards with him on TDY to Hawaii and Guam. if he says it's too dangerous to surf, i believe it.

I was stuck at work for the entire storm! That sucked! On top of that, when I got home, I found out that my satelite dish didn't survive! NO TV FOR ME!

Was it the government issue one? The black one? Looks like you owe some bucks. I watched across the street from me two get blown away at about noon on Friday. You are advised/warned about removing them when a typhoon is going to hit as they are not as substantial as the Japanese ones. You get what you pay for - "Made in Taiwan".

Good thing I never put up my afn dish. They didn't even give me a mounting bracket so I said screw it. Not that it matters anyway. My wife is the only one who watches tv and she watches japanese tv.

Actually it wouldn't cost him anything (as long as he still has the dish!). He's just required to turn the dish back in...they didn't say anything about it being in working order. They're not going to reissue him a new one though...but they won't reissue an old dish to another customer either...they just need it back for accountability.

btw...if it is broken, call me. I know someone who can probably repair it for you!

I got the dish back up today! It's no longer round, but I actually get a better signal than I did before!

are long gone! After the first one went I looked as I was still out of the wind. No where in sight. When the second one went the winds were probably 70~80 mph, gusts higher, and it probably flew far.

Poor dishes.

My trash can lid disappeared and I couldn't find it anywhere, until I backed my car out of the drive. It was right under the car! And my large garbage can was full of water with garbage floating in it. Yuk!
