I love meat. Cows and chicken are below humans on the food chain, so we eat them. This thread isn't a debate. This thread is a TRIBUTE!

Why do they call them sperm whales?
My theory is that the first time a sailor cut open the head of a sperm whale, milky white blubber spilled out. So, being the horny sailors that they are, they thought it looked like sperm and called it a sperm whale.
Hehehe, I doubt it is true but that would be funny as hell.

(couldn't help myself...)
The whale (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sperm_Whale) was named after the milky-white waxy substance, spermaceti, found in its head and originally mistaken for sperm. It's the stuff once used for candles and such... besides, just what has sperm in its head? heh... heh... heh...
How the hell do you mistake something 18 meters long as having sperm in its head... Come on now... The moon is not made of cheese...
Really trying hard not to think dirty about this one...
But then... I just used hard... dangit.......

Oki-Ham has some nice products. I'm eating some sausage right now with bell peppers, onions, and cheese all ground into it. DELICIOUS! Pork...it's what's for dinner!
Just had some lamb that I pickled up at SanEI today. The sauce that they sold with it went together really well. The meat was surprisingly tender and juicy.
Not a bad deal for the price either. Mmmm.
Eating beef jerky at the moment.

Has anyone read Fast Food Nation, seen the movie? What about Supersize Me?
One hamburger in the US is made from 1000 different cows!!
Chickens are given antibiotics and also injected with growth hormones.
Do they do this in Japan? I've heard some crazy stuff about how the marbling in some of the meat is acquired.
Are there any regulations in Japan on how cattle, chicken, swine, and dairy cows are reared?
I'm an advocate of good, quality meat & that seems hard to find these days unless you have lots of moola to blow on organic, free range animals.

I actually did the Supersize Me diet for a month when I was 21 or so. I did it right after SERE. Hadn't seen the movie not even sure if it was out yet back then. Just wanted an easy way to put some pounds back on. Gained about 28 lbs but felt great. Maybe its because I almost lost that much weight in the course. My metabolism was at a snails pace afterwards. Of course I was running everyday and hitting the gym religiously at the time. So I think diets play a big part but not quite as much as personal activity and one's metabolism do. Hell that guy was looking terrible near the end of the movie and I ate the same stuff, actually more and I was in some of the best shape of my life.

Yeah, that guy was definitely playing up the liberal "I hate McDonalds and what it represents" card, but still 1000 different cows into 1 hamburger....crazy!! I thought Fast Food Nation was much more well put together & scarey. I mean, who the freak eats 3 meals of fast food a day for that long on a regular basis?! His experiment was biased and therefore unscientific.
DougP
10-06-2007, 09:59 PM
Yeah, I agree. There was an obvious "hidden" agenda to the movie. I did the diet because back then just like today I love fast food. That and there was one just down the road. I wanted to see if I could eat Mc D's every day and put on some weight. Now I couldn't always eat lunch but the place was open late so sometimes I had a couple of dinners. One sometime after 6pm and usually one around midnight before going to bed. One of my usual big meals was 4 double cheese burgers and a super sized fry and coke. Sometimes I would just eat 2 double cheese burgers and 3 (20 pc) chicken nuggets. My meals varied a bit so I wouldn't call what I did an experiment but none the less it wouldn't be something that's considered healthy by anyone. Still it had no adverse affects on me.
Now the 1000 cows per burger thing. I can believe it. Why because burgers are generally made from cow byproduct. There are a lot of cows that get sliced and diced all the time at various slaughter houses and the byproducts of those cows go to many things. McDonald's burgers are just one of those things. I think its more of an average assessment. But yeah you're really not getting pure beef in those burgers but they sure do taste fine to me. :D

But yeah you're really not getting pure beef in those burgers but they sure do taste fine to me. :D
The book Fast Food Nation discusses why burgers still taste so good. Chemists work on how to make a burger taste like a burger. The movie has a brief scene over it.
Of course, this isn't just limited to meat. I met a chemist that worked for Kraft and had to make a chemical taste like cheese without any cheese at all.

If they can continue to use such "technologies" to make things taste like something they're not then maybe a lot more meat eaters like myself will switch over. :D Seriously if you can make a steak that tastes and looks like a steak but in fact is not a steak at all then what would be the purpose of slaughtering cows. If groups like PETA could put some more effort into this kind of research they might find their crusade a lot easier. Win the consumer over first before you attack the supplier.

Damn straight. I'd buy into a $3 tofu steak if it had the same look, texture, and taste as a $30 filet mignon (sp?).

My sister is a vegetarian, she tried to explain to my famliy that her meatless pizza topped with tofu tasted the same as a pizza with meat sauce and cheese.
The only person she was fooling was herself.....it tasted like :barf:. But being the nice brothers that we are, all 6 of us, we politely told her that next time she attempts to pull the wool over our eyes she would find herself tossed in the pool in the backyard......in January........in Wisconsin.........:D
Loving brothers that we are, got our point across rather bluntly however my sisters, all 4 of them we a bit nicer, but no by much.:thumbup1:
