N.W.A's Straight Outta Compton is a good album.

What's up with all this old school? Hip hop hasn't stagnated. It's progressed and matured. Unfortunately, the mainstream doesn't reflect that. There is a lot of quality shit that's out now. If you're getting your hip hop from the radio, MTV, or BET, then I feel bad for you. Real hip hop has moved underground.

C'mon...I know I'm not that much younger. I grew up on Beastie Boys, Run DMC, Fat Boys, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, and all the other old school greats. But as I immersed myself in the music, the progression to underground hip hop came naturally. The BX carries some bigger underground releases, but amazon.com is the best place to cop some used CDs. I've found great contemporary classics that go for a few bucks plus $3 shipping. Granted, transit time takes a while, but download the album and listen to it while you wait for it. Support underground and fucc all that mainstream garbage. Here's some suggestions...ya know what? Fucc it. I'll up a compilation of some quality music. What good are my suggestions if you can't listen to the music and judge for yourself? I'll up the music sometime in the next 24 hours.

Old school is 80's and 90's? lol...so does anyone want to trade my Corvette for their video games? ;)

Hip Hop sucks. No soul, no life. Just bubble gum for teeny boppers.

Acid Rock, Motown and Blues baby. There's soul there.

Yeah, I see young people listenting to it all the time. So does hip hop every move anyone to tears over a lost love?

A way of life to whom? Young white teenyboppers pretending they are urban? 5000 watts of subwoofer rattling the trunk of a car?

True about Motown and Blues being the original imputous for HipHop...just as it was for Rock and Roll. Doesn't mean I have to like HipHop. I have no feeling for it, and the lyrics on many of the songs are so negative that I don't want them in my life.

Black Orchid
03-10-2008, 05:01 PM
well the ones i posted arent negative at all...

and nah of course you dont have to like it everyone has thri preference
and yes some hip hop does move some ppl to tears esp when what is said relates to them

It's pretty ignorant to make a blanket statement about an entire art form. I'm sure your exposure to hip hop is from radio and TV. Yeah, it's pretty easy to make assumptions based off that garbage. The shit the major media outlets play is demeaning trash that is unfit for anyone's ears. Mainstream hip hop is a farce. It seems like an artist has to incorporate excess, materialism, misogyny, violence, or drugs into their music to make a top 10 song. I can understand the hate for that shit. But that is not all hip hop has to offer. Not everyone is following that trend.

Ignorant eh? First off, my exposure is based upon listening to other people's music. I do not listen to ANY radio here, never. I also never watch any music or what have you on TV. In fact, I watch two sitcoms, and movies. That is all.

Ignorant? I think not. Let me guess: You are twenty-something. What genre is Led Zepplin a member of?

Here is my ignorance: There are so many genre out there that I have no clue which little box I should place myself. I like what I like. I do not like hip hop because it doesn't move me. Simple as that.

dk
03-11-2008, 12:05 PM
Most hip hop does not move me either, but neither does most rock. I'm into the bands I'm into because they've impressed me at one time or another, and some of those artists are in the Hip Hop genre, others are in Rock, and others I have no real idea how to categorize.

The third one is for dk and Uchi...an awsome remix of Flo Ryda's Low by Travis Barker, former drummer of Blink 182 mixing rap and rock!

I love old school, too. The spirit and originality of the art form has evolved with artists like Lupe Fiasco, Common, Mos Def, Dilated Peoples, NY Oil, and others.
But what I wann know is this...Where are the female conscious underground MC's? There must be some out there!:star:
