IMO THE BEST QB to play the game...at least the best that I ever saw play.

Favre Retires! (http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/story/10685997)

So long Brett!

After flirting with retirement for years, Brett Favre means it this time.
Yay! The Cowboys have a better chance at getting to the Superbowl next season.

But seriously, he's a good quarterback. I know this, because I know who he is, and I don't really know much about football. heh. :D

GreenBay has been very lucky to have had him at the helm of the team for so many years.

Now I hope that GB finds a position for him in their front office or somewhere to keep him within the organization, even on the sidelines helping to guide his replacement Aaron Rodgers. If Rodger's is even 1/2 as good as Favre Green Bay should have a bright future.

He didnt look bad in the Dallas game, and although falling short in his attempt to bring the teacm back, he played extrememly well and showed that he his ready to lead the team.

Next year I think is going to be a tough one for GB fans and fans of Brett Farve. It will be kind of lonely without seeing him taking the snaps.

Good luck to him and his family in the future.

It's really saddening to see such a great player leave. Hopefully the new QB Aaron Rogers can do a good job. He look pretty decent when they had him out last year. He is no Favre though. GO PACKERS!

Ok...so, March 2008, Farve retires from Green Bay.

Then, In August 2008 The Jets sign Farve to play for them. (http://www.japanupdate.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7538&highlight=Farve)

Now there are rumors that the Vikings are interested in signing Farve. (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/11719665)

This looks more like a publicity stunt, but if it is true, it's nothing but a bad idea for everyone involved. As much as I like Farve, I can't see this helping anyone.

The more I look into it I really can't see it being true...mainly given the fact that Farve never had the surgery to repair his arm, and if the Vikings were to sign him, how long could he truly hold up?

So evidently Farve is still retired and not considering coming back. (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/11720023)

For Brad Childress, it was just another day at the office. And, for now, Brett Favre is not wearing purple.

The Minnesota Vikings' dalliance with the supposedly retired quarterback didn't reach the stage of face-to-face, close-the-deal talks Thursday -- and maybe they never will.

Yahoo! Sports reported that Favre called Childress sometime Wednesday or early Thursday and told the coach he wants to stay retired. Favre's longtime agent, Bus Cook, reiterated for the second straight day that his famously fickle client hadn't changed his plan to stay out of the game.

Stand by for tomorrow's update!

I hope he stays gone. He's one of the best QBs in NFL history, and I don't want him to further ruin his reputation by signing with yet another team. As much as I'd love to see him wearing a Packers uniform again, I think he's better suited helping the Pack grow Rodgers into a great QB.

Holy Crap! The drama continues!!

ESPN, again citing unnamed sources, reported X-rays of Favre's injured right shoulder have been sent to the Vikings for evaluation. The network said Favre will play for Minnesota if it's determined he doesn't need major surgery. If he does, according to the source, he'll stay retired.

The story goes on to mention again (as I mentioned above) that Farve's agent still denies it...but the fact that the stories are still out there makes one believe that he must be considering something.

I dont care about Farve the player as so much of the sports media "will he play, wont he play?" drama conjured by themselves.

I figured Brett Favre deserves some further commenting, based on the events of the first 6 games of the season.

Hope you enjoy chewing on those words. Where are all the Favre nay-sayers now?

The guy has still got it. Put him behind a line that keeps him safe, and all those interceptions go away. He's the 3rd-best rated QB in the league right now, and nobody's complaining about his indecisiveness anymore.

I do agree that it takes a team to win championships, but Favre has always been a team player. The dude just loves to play football. He would've still been playing in Green Bay had they let him. Nobody should hate on him for moving on, and continuing to play football. He's obviously still an awesome QB, and I wouldn't be surprised if he sticks around for 2-3 more years if he keeps seeing the same quality protection as he has been thus far.

Let the shit-talking commence!

You do know we are talking about Brett Favre, right? I'm not talking about Farva from Super Troopers.

If you are talking about Brett Favre, please explain to me how he's a crappy team member. Ball hog? Horrible passer? Does he talk down to his teammates? The answer to all those questions is no. And even now he doesn't say anything negative about either the Jets or the Packers, despite his disagreements with the management. Unless you've got some facts, I'm throwing the brown flag.

Jim: Oh, and it looks like he's thrown the BS flag.

Frank: That's a good call, Jim, the opposing poster seemed to be merely talking out of his ass.

Jim: Well, Frank, he must be a Detroit Lions fan.

Frank: Not so sure about that Jim, he's a known ass-talker. Remember the "I'm leaving JU" incidents of '83, '85-'87, '94, '97, and 2001?

I forgot to add IMHO.

There it is. IMHO. It's an opinion. I just think he's a turd.

I agree that he is playing great, but a lot of that is because he is on a complete team right now. They have a running attack, and a legit D. BUT...Farve started out ok in New York too. How much life is left in those legs after they get 8 games in the books. Can that arm hold up for an entire season? We'll see. I'm not putting the guy down, but I'm not gonna hop on the bandwagon either.

Good points, but Favre has never had this kind of protection. Even in the mid 90s with Green Bay when they were making the playoffs yearly, Favre was getting hit throwing every other pass, which sucked, because the RBs were only getting 15 carries per game.... so he got hit a lot.

As far as his health goes, he'll be fine as long as he's not getting banged up again and again. Getting to him has proven a tough task, and I think he'll continue to play well until someone beats him up, which is tough with AP in the backfield.

I've always been a Favre fan, so perhaps I'm a lot biased, but the playing conditions for him have never been better, so I'm nothing but optimistic about him being able to play as long as they'll let him... or he lets himself.

Maybe a question for another thread, but-- If The Vikes were to win the Super Bowl this year, do you think he'd bow out Elway style? Or do you think he'd ride it out until his body failed him?

Good point, he has the Williams' bros protecting him right now!

I think he will play again if he feels that the team will remain intact. He'll play until his legs fall off basically.
