BTW, has anyone else south of Chatan noticed that 648 AM is a lot weaker than it used to be? Did they forget to clip on the rabbit ears?

My favorite AFN commercial... hmmm.. really hard question! I'll go with the one that goes on after they go off the air. It goes like this:.. .. . . .... ... ...... ..... ssssssss .......

Could be something as simple as a different type of antenna from the first one. Our it could be positioned in a different way then it was before.

Since it was AM (medium-wave), either they were just using a vertical mast before or some sort of bi-directional system (N-S), so I can't imagine why would replace it with anything else.

I have a feeling that they just turned down the power so it can mainly be heard around the bases and not all over the island.

Why do I think this? Because when I sent an e-mail to AFRT in Washington to find out when it would be back, I was informed by some twit that AFN radio and TV is intended for military personnel, and whether or not the civilian population can hear it is not their concern.

I was thinking it was some sort of bi directional antenna too. But, you never know, I've seen some stupid set ups on base before.

I also like the pandemic flu chicken a lot. I think this is my favorite Yokota AB AFN ad: The one about parking in the loading zone in front of a building. "Loading zones are for loading... so don't park there!" LOL. The Towers need that type of ad.

I don't get AFN AM 648 at all on my car radio. :(

The best commercials are the ones that don't make it past QC and deemed not appropriate...its too bad becaus ethose are the type that get the message out and heard..and people remember them...and they are actually a bit better in quality....I seen a promo of a personal privacy one, and it included a flash dance theme...it was hilarious...but was axed.

well if you interpret it that way, but yes, thats the idea....hes a can, acting like a Styrofoam cup....but what if he already is black or a gansta? How can you tell, if all you can see is a can with a cup covering itself? What makes you think hes trying to be anything but a cup?

According to tests, the signal is actually quite higher than it was with the old tower and can be heard and tuned in as far as Okuma (minus being behind any mountains).

Depends on your radio. If you can get AM 648exactly, then your signal will be best....most people can tune in at 640 and pick it up, until a certain distance.

Could it be the case that the new antenna is directional to the north but not to the south where there are no bases?

Was anyone here like 15 years ago when they used to make fake commercials off of SNL skits and "In Living Color" skits? I remember they had a fire prevention one and they had a guy to act like Jim Carey (when he was the firefighter on ILC). They were really stupid at the time (and still are), but I miss them compared to the crap that's on now.. however....I love the styrofoam cup! "Bam! Look at them cans, yo!"

I love the one for Family Advocacy where they show the tear-eyed man working on his car and then you hear the wife saying "You can't do anything right"! It is hilarious! when i was a platoon sgt back in quantico, i had a young marine who's wife cut up all his uniforms and while he was sleeping, hit him in the face with a boot. she weighed in at 300+ and he was maybe 140 wet. I gave her a second asshole about the uniforms but laughed my ass off about the boot in the face. :smile4:

I worked with a Gunny who got his ass beat by his wife after going down to Cubi Point with us. Hell, he didn't even do anything. He came to work with black eyes, scratches all over and admitted that his wife kicked his ass for being gone two weeks. She was a pig.
