I have come up with a plan. BOYCOTT AAFES and Mediatti!

Until they lower their prices and until Mediatti gets their heads outta their asses.

I'm right there with you on Mediatti...I'm sick of the blue DVD screen of death; not to mention the crappy picture quality.

Wouldn't that be as pointless as boycotting gas companies for fuel prices? Unless you REALLY don't need it then they really don't care.

Mediatti would...I dumped their internet service like a bad habit when Konnect became available (six times the speed, same price...and no shitty employees to deal with).

Now, if a viable alternative to Mediatti's cable television was available, I'd be on it like a bum on a bottle.

Personally I would love to see half these dependants try and shop off base.. haha

What is Konnect, and what base are they on?

Konnect is ADSL through MCCS, and it's available on all of the Marine Corps bases.

As far as I know Konnect is not available on Shields and Kadena.

Mediatti is upgrading thier system now and will soon be broadcasting basicly live. They will time shift the programming 12 hours so that it will be the same as being in the states.

I was here in 95... we only had 2 channels on T.V. and 2 radio stations. What we have now is way better than it used to be.

Yup and I bet back then you had to walk both ways uphill in the snow just to get to work. Had to qualify expert on the musket and probably had a drivers badge for chariot.:D:w00t: j/k but it did come off a little like those old rants my folks used to have. Sometimes its best to move on and embrace the improvements. Never hurts to want more either. I'd like to think of that as striving for excellence.:thumbup:

I for one feel sorry for anyone out there that doesn't have "real" ADSL or a fiber connection. Back when I had no choice but to use Mediatti I was reminded of the old days of dial up and prodigy.:thumbdown:

so wait a minute.. they get the channels im paying for like VH1 and crap and tape them and the show them??? BULLCRAP.. it doesnt look like it showing on AFN because i see commercials... so i dont beleive that the channels i see are two weeks behind come from AFN..

Mediatti has nothing to do with the AFN channels, they just pass them along as they receive them. Those are the free channels. The channels you pay for are delayed, because they have to be recorded in the states on DVD, then mailed over here. The link provides some interesting insight into this system.

The DVD system does suck, but not as bad as the fact that they seem to be unable to manage the complex orchestra of placing the correct DVD in the correct machine, hence the "blue DVD screen of death" that we often get.

The worst was watching one of the rare free UFC events, only to get the DVD screen right before the main event. That lasted for about a half an hour, only to be replaced with Saturday morning cartoons...on a Friday night. I sent a very nasty email to them, only to have some whiner forward it to the base SgtMaj, as if it were a USMC issue, vice a customer service issue. That's when I dumped my internet.

If I didn't have a wife and kids that love their television shows, I'd dump their "cable" television in a heartbeat too.

I miss my DirecTV...so many channels and so few problems. It sure would be nice to see some HD content on my HDTV someday...

ahh yea.. forgot you guys get regular channels and stuff on base.. personally I say quit bitching about it.. at least you get them. I have to put up with japanese only or the FOX channel where shows come out a year later.. not two weeks. But to make up for it.. I have Fiber and download all my shows as they come out. :D

I am with you on that Dweener! 2 more months of using AAFES...after that I will be done with them for good also (except for when it comes to uniforms and haircuts). I would rather go off-base and pay taxes on items than give more money to AAFES.

Oh, and don't even get me started on Mediatti. Horrible prices, horrible quality (internet and cable), customer service is so-so.

i am paying for internet and cable and i dont even have a damn tv anymore... and they were like if you take away your cable we are going to charge you 12 dollars to down grade and if you get it later its goona cost you 12 bucks plus money to have it "installed"

i worked on computers for 2 years of my life and tinkered with them since windows 95 was popular... honestly i think if you gave me the stuff, charged me 12 bucks i could hook it up myself.

I know the head technician for mediatti and he told me they are supposed to be upgrading to streaming video soon. How long soon is I don't know......We drink too much at bowling to carry out a conversation past 5 sentences before we change the subject!

MOVE OFF BASE. Everyone has a choice. Live on base, be two weeks behind, pay an arm and a leg. Live off base, be MUCH happier about your overall life and not have to rely on tv so much. I have the afn decoder that gives me 10 total channels. The hit shows are 4 months behind. My first overseas assignment, I had 3 channels and the shows were over a year old. There HAS to be something more worthwhile to bitch about then shows being a couple months behind. Trust me. IT COULD BE WORSE.

LOL, speaking of boycotts, there's a somewhat organized boycott of Yokota AAFES scheduled for the 4th of July weekend. NOT trying to take any fire from THIS forum by ANY means, but you can check out the action at http://www.yokotatalk.com to see what's going on, on THIS "end of the island". I'm retired USAF and was stationed at Kadena a LONG time ago, and it's been a few years since I even visited. Reading the postings on this board, I see that things don't really change much at all, besides the new buildings, etc.

It's amazing how AAFES jacks up the gas prices around the weekends when most people do their driving:scratchchin:

I was told every friday that the average stateside price is verified and AAFES adjusts accordingly. We are still paying much less that some places in the US!

I walked into the Mediatti office with about 8 friends of mine, and we all cancelled our service. They have terrible terrible customer service, and for the price you pay, the quality really is bad.

I dont ever watch TV, and I have a different Internet provider now, so life is good. :)

As much as Crappiatti sucks at times, I still remember when we had AT&T Jens dialup in 2002, which REALLY sucked! Of course I also remember when we had only one FEN (AFN) channel and nothing else. I guess I appreciate it more because I saw what they used to have

Sling media is out now. I think you mean about AAFES. No, I wouldn't. All I know is that Other bases have made the switch and the rest will as some point.

LOL, I'll just stick to my 'puter, and watch WHAT I want, WHEN I want. As for JENS, may they indeed reap what they sowed! Americable was pretty good here, but they got the screws put to 'em, because of some muckity-muck with his hand in the cookie jar back in CONUS.
You'll prolly find out real quick that downtown cable offers better and faster service for your 'net connections.:smile4: But...don't forget, a (small) portion of your purchase price supports YOUR (and MANY others) MWR activities.
