I came up with an idea.
If you are a resident here in Japan and apply for a government job on base you will now be given the choice
A. Keep your Japanese visa, take the job, NOT SOFA status, you will still get all base privileges BUT will have to pay both American and Japanese taxes.
or
B. Take SOFA status
What do you think?

I'd take the SOFA so I can use the Post office and get the Y plate for cheaper road tax and JCI. But if I could keep Japanese visa and still have same privileges, then I'd do it.

Would be nice to have that option. I'd go back to having a visa in a heartbeat. They can keep the PX/BX and commissary. Just show up to work, do my job and then, peace!!:)

Why would have to pay Japanese tax? It's already taxed back in the states. Unless you have a Bank acoount off base, or are enrolled in the Japanese Medicare system, you wouldn't have to pay income tax.
Of course, things like Road Tax, and local sales taxes would still have to be paid.
