Is burning a public figure in effigy less bad than burning a country's flag? Some may consider burning the image of a person to be a direct threat rather than just a statement.

Flag burning is directed at the policies of a country. I tend to think that burning a person in effigy as a public statement to also be directed at the policies and beliefs of that person.

We are all familiar with images of Uncle Sam, Reagan, Bush, Thatcher, etc... with being burned, but we shouldn't forget that our forefathers also burned the British flag and effigies of King George as well, while they were subjects of the King.

Anyway, here is an effigy burning of an old man who has a mistakenly kindly image that I tend to like and agree with i.e. I agree with burning the Colonel in effigy:

lmao.

With an avatar like yours, of course you would.

Quick, someone unhappy with Gen Zilmer's policies use MS Paint to create an image of a burning effigy of him. Can't be worse than painting him up as Hitler and posting it.

Dude, there are websites you could upload the box-moustache image to, and add the flames yourself without any special software.

From what I was told, "Colonel Sanders" was a real person, albeit dead and a member of Pi Kappa Alpha, which is from whom I heard it. I know that the British burn an effigy of Guy Fawkes, right? He's pretty dead too from what I understand.

If the effigy is of a person already dead or is fictional, I don't have a problem with it. I would see it as a threat to one's person if an effigy of a living person were burned regardless of the reason. That's all the thinking I have on it so far.

Better to burn effigies than who they represent. I think that they are a fabulous and suitable sign of public dissent. What do you think, TP?

That was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time.
