Can't follow simple rules! Now you have 48 hrs to leave the island. I guess if you really wanted to leave this place that is a good way of doing it.

Yup, I heard about this. Army dependants, now their Soldier will be here on 3 year Unaccompanied or less if they've been here for a while.

I don't see how they can get someone off this island that fast. It took me 7 days to get back from Thailand, and I was on an offical mission.
Just seems like more tidbits from the rumor mill.

But you also didn't violate a direct order from a 3 star general on a national incident. You we're just doing Gov. travel that always take forever. When they want you gone they make you disappear real fast.

Hitomi is right, if they want you out of here fast, they can get it done.

We knew someone who was ERD'd.
From the time LifeSkills said "you are out" to the time they were gone was pretty fast.
It was less than a week that they had her and 2 kids out of there.

These dependents must be really desparate to get off the island. I wonder what would happen to the active duty member and how much trouble he would be in:eek:

This morning in the ER, we were the only one's there, but there was a call that someone took too many anti-depressent pills.
EDIT: Either they want off this island, or can't stand being on lockdown!

Um, they were at Starbucks. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw them pass by the 31 Flavors last night and go right into Starbucks. They were caught and a helicopter landed and flew them right to Kadena where they were put on a plane waiting specifically for this reason. I guess it's pretty serious

This just out!!!!!
Apparently, supposedly 23 people are being sent home.
This is from a wife who "drives around with 2 stars on the back of her Delica" somehow implying her husband is a ......?
Some people that claim to be DoDDS teachers.
Also, numerous other people who's husbands are really nobody, but have heard it too.
Does this qualify for evidence?
I wonder if they are going to erect a special holding camp for these "lock down breakers"

That what I heard through official channels. I was forwarded an email from the DoDDS supervisor stating that 23 folks were being sent home in 48 hours for eating at COCO's (wouldn't that be grand right now) going to Starbucks (That's really expensive Coffee!) going to McDonalds (Big Mac Attack) and visiting Okinawan Firends

Are you sure it wasn't a Marine helicopter??? And, that it didn't crash instead of land???

So does that mean that there are possibly 23 jobs available that are possibly open to anyone but will only be given to people who already have sofa and who in some cases probably wont even have the enthusiasm to work??

so, why can't the dependents supposedly getting booted just go to Immigration out Gate 2 and get a 90 day tourist visa? Repeat as needed till the spouse pcs's.

They have to be sent back to the states by the military. Then they have to reenter Japan with passports and they get 90 days. Then have to leave and come back for another 90 days.

technically when you lose SOFA you do not have to go back to the states right away, according to Japanese immigration you have a window of 60 days. But then again maybe the military has their own rules. It might be different for those who lose command sponsor ship but coming off of SOFA status alone doesn't mean you have to go back to the states. I never left.:D
edit to add: 60 day window - fly to Taiwan - comeback/ 90 day visa (repeat if necessary):D

My ticket was about 36000 yen when I went. :thumbup1:

However they leave the country they can get right back on another flight if they have the money and a valid passport and reenter Japan as a tourist. Like Tony wrote here the visa is for 90 days, however extensions are possible as well. Just go to the immigration office and request the proper paperwork. This is for citizens of the USA.
Technically people from the USA are exempt from applying for a visa previous to entry to Japan. Japan and the USA have reciprocal agreements on this.
Here is the Ministry Of Foreign Affairs website (http://www.mofa.go.jp/j_info/visit/visa/02.html#a)and visa information.
Also I would be willing to bet that people who have Japanese spouses would be able to walk out the gate and go to the immigration office and apply for a spouse visa right off the bat.

I think that the thing is that the Dependents were flown by the military, so the military makes it a "hard ship duty station" for the military member. I could be way off on this.
If they didn't, the only other thing that they could do would be make it an unaccompanied tour and the dependents be banned from base. That would suck. They could stay, but they would have to live off base and without the aid of the government

A wife that is Japanese.
Oopps clarifed here....
Or a husband that is Japanese

You also need to prove a valid relationship, so if for example you have only been married a couple of months and havent known each other that long you wont get one. They ask for emails, photos proof of relationship basically.

You'll most likely get one but it may only be a one year and not a three year spousal visa.

Like everything in Japan especially immigration they treat it case by case. They dont have a publicly visible guide book to the rules as you get in the USA and UK.
It depends on the time of day, whether the IM Inspector is in a good mood, had a good lunch, had sex with the wife the night before, baseball team won etc etc

I'm glad its not like getting a visa in the US. Oh man would that suck. It was pretty painless for my wife and I. Couple of trips here and there and not too expensive. We were greeted with smiles and everyone through out the process was very helpful... Its a pity SOFA couldn't be more like that.:D

I have always found them very good, you just have to be very polite and not get on their bad side :-)
It does help if you are American or West European though, I know for a fact that they are not at all keen on some other Asian visa applications!

I have a wicked good buddy who is high up on the SF's chain and the rule is if you violate the lockdown regulations since you signed a(@ least the military member did maybe not spouse, but they speak for the spouse)letter stating you will follow all lockdown rules from LtGen Zilmer that if you don't you will have to leave the island in 48 hrs NO BS!!!

I don't know how many people were caught this past weekend but the majority was from Starbucks and the 48 hour thing is true. I attended the Camp Commander meeting earlier and they passed this information on. I don't think they would pass rumors at a meeting of such. They also said that if people don't start following the rules this lockdown is just going to become even longer. The next meeting they have to discuss "what to do next" is this coming Monday. I'm afraid because it's a payday weekend and I'm sure there will be some people that get caught again.

DocP posted this in the other thread, but needs to be here too:
Ok...DocP sat in on a meeting this morning. It was confirmed in the meeting (by some very high ups) that no Marine SOFA status personnel have been ERD'd (spouse, dependent or otherwise). Some may have been caught, but not ERD'd. DocP cannot speak for the AF or Army though...but it seems as though the AF has been less strict with this all along, so hard to believe that they would have done anything.
