There must be one out there. As I was able to see ENVY live here a few months ago down in naha.

So anyone know anything about a music scene here that's not hip hop or singing love songs at jusco?

P.S

Sorry, but if you are looking for Live Bands that play Metal / Rock / Punk / Hardcore, you are gonna have to go to Gate 2. Unless you just want a little hole in the wall bar that plays CD's or MP3's to sit in, there may be a few around. There's not a whole lot of places left that have live bands that play that type of music. There used to be some in Naha, but they are all mostly Hip-Hop / Dance clubs now.

So suck it up, put on your ass-stomping boots, and head to Gate 2.

The music scene in Okinawa is geared mostly to lame dicks and homosexuals. It will be hard to get music that matters within earshot.

The Hat Trickers from Osaka should head this way.

I'd have to say (even though it's gate 2) is Fujiyama is your best bet especially if FOD is playing those guys are the shit. Fujy has good strong drinks, cheap prices, I think it's 500Y cover for men, ladies are free, good times.

Sounds like you know alot about dicks and homosexuals. Maybe you could enlighten us on what music you and the rest of the gay community on Okinawa like to listen to?

Are the Hat Trickers and gay band?

why is it that when he said Hardcore....like ENVY, that you idiots said "goto Gate 2", Gate 2 is the worst place on this island, especially for music, it's a bunch crappy talentless cover bands and it's filled with a bunch of dumb americans that think it's ok to get as drunk as possible and act like idiots in a foreign country.

The Hardcore scene here is amazing if you know the right people to get you in, it is a very tight community. Best groups are: HateCrown, Stinky, inForest and Reason for Living. PM me or look them up on myspace.

HA HA HA..at the newb trying to push his friends bands. It's OK if you are scared to go to Gate 2 dude, you can hang around Naha, Uresoe, and other places with all the locals, and flaunt your "Americaness" and try to impress people with your vast musical knowledge.

I'm not saying that Gate 2 is the "Gateway to Asian Culture" by any means, But the local bands that want to play American style music, sometimes want to play in front of an American audience to see how they are received.

There are many bands that emulate American music that are too insecure to play in front of Americans, and only play for locals.

I know many local bands that play on and off Gate 2, nowhere in this thread have I said that any band that has the nards to get up and sing and play live music in front of people sucks because they don't play on Gate 2.

I just think the people that hate Gate 2 because there "are so many Americans" are scared or even misinformed over past events in the area. Well no shit, Gate 2 is right by an Air Force Base, of course there will alot of Americans there. If you want to stay away from all the Military, go ahead. There are many, many locals that choose to play and hang there also for some reason.

There's also many good bands that play in that area, and if they choose to play more cover songs than originals, that because well known songs are better for customers to jam to, and sing-a-longs for the club they are playing at. Unless you are a band that is established, and can open your own bar, or get signed and air-play, you may have play covers to get noticed. This isn't L.A. You can have an awesome original, but it takes time to catch on.

Japanese "original hardcore" is funny and kinda weak by the way. More geared towards high school kids. But if that's what you like...go for it.

'nuff said.

I feel really honored that Okinawa's most revered homosexual has taken the time to allude to me in yet another one of his mindless rants. I was thinking about giving you a clue but I doubt you'd know what to do with it.

This is your only warning, lay off the personal insults. No reason to call people "gay" just because they like a different type of music then you do.

Hmmm...I think that if you're looking for hardcore along the same stylings as Envy, gate 2 is not the place for you. Never have I seen or heard of a hardcore band playing near the gate 2 area. Most of gate 2 is American style metal or classic rock. There are 2 or 3 main spots that all the hardcore bands play at further towards Naha. Theres even a show this upcoming saturday if you'd like to go. Just shoot me a message.

And just to add to the conversation at hand, theres a huge difference between playing at a bar on gate 2 and a live house in Naha. Many okinawan bands consider Koza a dead end. If a band were to establish themselves in Okinawa or Japan it wouldn't be by playing in front of American audiences. The only reason some choose to play at Fuji's because they're one of the few places that pay bands. If you like cover bands then gate 2 is the place for you. If your looking for something a bit more original then keep searching, trust me its out there.

And the hardcore scene out here is thriving and its not aimed at highschool kids. In fact I don't really think its aimed at anybody except people that like hardcore music. So go check it out if your interested.

By the way I'm not american so I'm not trying to "Flaunt my americaness" I guessing you are a 20 year old meat-head, WoW player that thinks the crap on the radio is good music....you are the one that doesn't know anything a music.

Anyone else find it funny that people think whatever "style" (clothing/music/attitude) they hold dear is head and shoulders above the rest? Come on people, this is freaking high school shit! Everyone has their own tastes when it come to things like music. Just because you don't like what someone else is listening too that doesn't make them a "poser" or a "wannabe gangster".

Vast musical knowledge huh...the original post was where can I see Hardcore shows, there is no Hardcore on Gay 2 street. I'm not afraid to go to Gate 2, I am embarrassed when I go there because americans don't know how to act in a foreign country. Gate 2 is just a bunch of black guys in their impostor cloths from Richie Rich trying to act gangster.

This I agree with.

However, gate 2 street is not just a bunch of black guys trying to act gangster. Your ignorance is showing:rolleyes:.

OK. I get that some of you don't like the Gate 2 area. Good for you. But to say that there are no good live bands, or that the reason you don't go to Gate 2 is because of "there's too many Americans", is B.S. What do you do when you get rotated back to the States? Who do you listen to?. Or if you say you are local, do you only listen to Okinawan Minyo? Y'all sound like a bunch of people that just hate Gate 2 for being Gate 2. If many of the same bands were to play on some side street in Tomishiro, you would rave about them. If they play on Gate 2, you will call them sell outs.

I'm here to tell you, if you really, REALLY want to get into it about who's band is better and where they play, feel free to come see me at Club Fujiyama on Friday night. July 3rd. I will be working, and would LOVE to beat your.....converse with you about local areas and music, and how you think they make you cooler than the people that like Gate 2.

Great statement. But some of the people feel that if there are more than 3 Americans at a live show on the side streets of Naha, there's too many Americans there.

People go where there's good music. They go to the music they like. And that's awesome. If it's a local band, or an American band, it shouldn't matter who's in the crowd.

But to bitch and complain about there being "too many Americans" at an area that is known for American influenced Rock, is stupid. Koza is not known for it's Minyo music, or the power of it's sanshin tunes. It's known for Rock Music. If you want Okinawan music, you have to go to other places. I don't trash the area that Begin plays at, so don't trash the area that 8 Ball plays at.

No your right, the crowd doesn't matter, but what does matter is how the crowd behaves. I went out to watch FOD play (only because my Japanese friend hadn't seen them play) at 7th Heaven last month and I saw an American standing in the corner punching the pinball machine and taking kicks at random tables and chairs. I asked the guy nicely if he would stop and be a little bit more respectful of something that wasn't his, so then he tries to start a fight with me. I don't know how many times Ive gone to shows and seen random Americans get hammered, get in the pit without any understanding of what an actual mosh pit is and end up really hurting someone. Then my Japanese friends come ask me if he's my friend or if I know him. Why do they make that relation? Because we're both American and in the military. So its not that I don't want Americans at rock shows, in fact we just put together a hardcore/post-hardcore show a few weeks ago in American Village specifically to bring together Okinawans and Americans (2side1brain, Inforest, Rin, SF, and Death Point Theory, with great success by the way. 260+ people), I just don't want "that guy" anywhere where anyone can associate him with me. The problem is that you never know who that guy is gonna be.

Don't get me wrong, Okinawans can get pretty stupid too sometimes, but they can take care of their own.

Im no knocking Koza, Im just telling you that the majority of rock/hardcore/post-hardcore/metal shows that happen on this island don't happen there. Think what you want, say what you want, but those are the facts.
