I was curious on who wants us off Okinawa. What is the agenda of this group? Is it the majority on Okinawa or outsiders from Mainland?

It's difficult to answer this question because your answer should depend on who you ask.

There are plenty of groups with typically strong and weak ties to ultra-nationalist neo-nazi-ish principles - mostly in the mainland.

They see America's military presence as an affront to Japan's imperial past.

If you ask other folks, especially those employed by or connected in some way monetarily to the base, you will get a different answer. It's really a mixed bag.

If you really want to know who wants Americans to vacate and why, then I'd suggest undertaking a small research project - if you're an enterprising student of political science or anthropology or sociology. No doubt the current problems here will create a number of such projects.

I would imagine China would like us out of Japan

If you receive Kadena domain email...then just about every protest BESIDES the JG pay protests want us off Okinawa...especially Futenma, because they say its flight activities/noise harm them mentally etc. :old:

That's what I mean. Most of these "Protesters" are paid to hold up the signs and wake up early in the morning. I understand that Okinawans want their land back and that is their reason for not wanting us here, but if for some reason we were to leave, wouldnt the Japanese Military take over all these bases? Would it make things better?

We could always use another dozen or so Jusco's.

About 1% of the poulation. Majority of protesters are from out of country and paid by political groups to do it.
