OK, this lock down will eventually end, and we will all want to go out to our favorite places to eat.
So, lets share some of our favorite places.
Help out the locals after the dry spell, and inform others of a good meal.

Wing King is near Kitamae gate. Coming from Kadena, get on the road that runs parallel with 58 in front of Mihama. Stay on that road until you pass ETWS, Chirugwa, and the swap meet area. The road will taper slightly and you'll head over a small bridge..make the first left immediately after the bridge, and it will be down a ways on the right.
I recommend the spicy coconut. It never fails to please. Spicy and sweet!
For some reason...they don't have wings. Only drums.. go figure.

You can also make a u-turn after the Foster Kitamae gate...then it is the 1st (maybe 2nd) left. Wing King will be on the left.

There is a Wing King on RTE 23 near Kadena AB. Its right next door to the chiropractic office I go to.
exit Kadena Gate 1 and make a left toward RTE 23. Take that left and go straight. After Eagle Lodge you'll see it on your left hand side. You'll also notice an AU store on your right hand side. If you go past Sunny's housing agency (on the right hand side) you've gone too far.
On the cheap note.....how cheap is Dragon's? I'm broke until mid march, and I'm always looking for a cheap place to eat.

On the cheap note.....how cheap is Dragon's? I'm broke until mid march, and I'm always looking for a cheap place to eat.
Very...around 700yen gets you a very large bowl of ramen and extras, I usually choose the deep fried chicken as my extra...
A few other places I eat....
-- FABS Curry in Sunabe= 800-900 yen, all you can eat.
-- Ichiban Tei Ramen= On 58 around Camp Lester, many choices of ramen and free kimichi.
-- Sukiya= Beef bowl place next to Wendys in the new Koza Music Hall building.
-- Hamaya Soba= In Sunabe right around the corner from dive shop, no frills Soba.
-- Seaside Drive-in= In Onna village, open 24 hours with american style food.
-- Bikuri Donkey= On 58 Lester/Foster area, looks like an old wooden shack. Has many styles of Hamburger steak dishes.

If you like curry, handmade pastas, Mexican stuff, nice seafood salads, garden salads and other assorted treats, try the lunchtime buffet at the Beach Tower Hotel just behind Jusco in Mihama.
The buffet is 1500 yen for all you can stuff down your gullet. It is really worth 1500. The food is very well prepared. Even the desserts are nice, as well as the hot coffee. They don't skimp on the quality of the coffee.
The atmosphere is nice too. Nice view of the beach. The staff is also friendly.
Be sure to park in the the hotel's parking lot. When you go through gate and get your parking ticket, be sure to keep it on your person. After you've finished your nice lunch, take your ticket to the front check-in counter and have it stamped so that the parking is free when you exit.

Went to Ryu-Gh-Oh (don't remember if that's the correct spelling) last night, and it was delicious:thumbup:. It's not my favorite yaki niku place, but it's cheap on fridays and saturdays, and it's close to my house. But I think they had some trouble with some americans maybe doing a dine and dash, or making a scene once they have to pay extra (for ordering food and not eating it, it's all you can eat). Because now you have to pay before you eat.
It's right out gate one next to U time and pizza inn. Once again, not the best yaki niku, but good.

I thought Shishimaru was pretty weak, but very cheap (depends on what you're looking for). Kowdy (sp?) was much better, but if it's the best steak house on the island, I'll never go out for steak again (my grill works fine).
Still going with Tsubaki ya in Uruma. They have a variety of Japanese and Okinawan cuisine, prices are very reasonable, and the staff is great.

. Daikon no Hana Open every day. Lunch 1130-1600 Dinner 1700-2200
It is in Okinawa City. From Kadena Gate 2, go straight until 330, which is GOYA intersection. Make a left. Take 330 north and go straight. 330 becomes 75. Continue past "McDonalds" (on the right) and "Mister Donuts" (also right) and you will see a big red "Best" sign on the corner opposite "A&W". "Daikon no Hana" had a green sign. You will be able to see the big food picture on the outside wall of the building. Park underneath. They have a buffet, not only vegetables, but they have a lot of vegetable meals that feel much healthier than other restaurants. Lunch is 1400 yen and dinner is 1800 yen.

Kitikaisen isn't bad, but there are a TON of better izakayas. Anzuya is one of my favorites, always enjoyed the chicken nanban. There was an anzuya on 330 up the hill from futenma that had a drinking plan! It was 900 yen for all you can drink for two hours. So I'd get wasted and eat dinner and spend right around 2000 yen, then go bar hopping or karaoke. But it closed down:(. But I went there recently and I guess a new izakaya opened up in the building and they still have the drinking plan:thumbup:

You won't find a single american at the izakaya I'm talking about. Unless you bring them with you. Even though it's behind futenma, no one knows about it.
Karubi daiho (my favorite yaki niku on island) also doesn't cater to americans. So you won't be seeing any there either:)

Yoshi hachi's or the place across the street from them (Hama Sushi) have great sushi. Yoshi's is always too crowded though, but Hama usually has no Americans there. The menu is not as big, but the portions are bigger.
There's also a Daikon no Hana in the plaza under the bridge past Kinser. It's before the Kojima electronics store. It's next to McDonalds in the plaza if I remember right.
Also if you like healthy and oishii, Ootoya in the same building as Toys R us in Shintoshin, and also in Barclays Court plaza in Urasoe near the embassy is good and relatively cheap....................

There is a bigger Daiko no Hana buffet past the airport on the left, heading towards Itoman. Me and my wife have gone there before, It is delicouse:first:.
Me and my familly went to yakiniku for our first dinner out yesterday. I love yakiniku, however my eyes are bigger then my stomache, and I always end up getting to much off the buffet. The bad part is, you have to finish everything you get. I usually spend the last half of the meal suffering, packing down my food and my sons left overs:barf:, becuase his eyes are bigger then his stomach as well.

I know this is a pretty dead horse around here but I'm in the mood for Thai food. I still haven't tried Curucuma (sp) down south or any of the places in Naha. The only Thai I've had here actually was Jai Thai and it was decent at best.
So, where's a great Thai joint to try? Maybe a little hole-n-the-wall in Naha I'm thinking.... ???
I read an article recently on Kastamandap (located in the same little area of Hamby as Flex). They recommended the Butter Chicken Curry (I think). Can anyone second this or offer any others to try here?

Just make sure you park on the actual seawall and you'll be fine. That is near the north end where the road becomes dirt. There is always ample parking in the dirt area as long as the surf's not up.

Wife and I go once or twice a month. The bagel's are great! The sandwiches are also great and so is the tea and coffe which they have wide varriety of.
A meal is about ¥700 and you get your choice of sandwich (I like the tomato avacado, or the hummus and veggie) on your choice of bagel (cheese curry, and the everything are my favs) then you get a choice of soup (like a rustic homamade tomato veggie) or salad (haven't tried it yet) and choice of drink (the cappuccino and the Earl Grey and Haibiscus teas were good).
Bottom line, it's a great little naicha hippy ran, laid-back, comfy (sink into) sofa kinda joint. The decorations and music will make you wish it was 15 years earlier and you had just smoked a joint or ate some shrooms. It's pretty cool sober too.
Parking sucks and is very limited so don't you all start hanging there now or if you do take a bus/cab.
Oh, if there's more than a couple people there you'll wait a while but never was way too long and always was worth it. If you order tea, they do it right and that will also take quite a while to get but very worth it and there's tons of books and magazines to look through while you wait.
I seriously don't work for this place, just really dig it and I'm bored.
Now, shhh, don't go tellin' everyone about it.
Just finished lunch at what I'm very seriously considering proclaiming as my absolute favorite place in Okinawa. Actually yeah, so far it definitely is! It's called Batten (my Japanese language bar isn't working or I'd show you what it looks like on the sign). I'd happily eat there once a day, every day.

It's a little ways down past the Mihama Jusco, if you turn in the Mac-House parking lot on 58 and go to the back and follow it around to the right, you'll see it.
It's very fresh, consistently delicious seafood, both cooked and raw. The Batten Gozen is the best IMHO but it's ¥1,600. Their Chirashizushi is the best I've had and is ¥900. I had the ladies set today and if you like sushi and don't want to eat a whole lot I highly recommend it - ¥950.
