View Full Version : Lock Down Rumors or Not...

I'm sure most of us have heard from a guy that know another guy that someone got busted. But how true are these rumors? I haven't spoke to anyone that specifically knows someone that has gotten in trouble or has been confronted. Here are the rumors that are floating around the office this morning.

1. A group of Marine wives decided to go out to Chatan for dinner this weekend and were caught by the MP's. Now they have a oneway ticket back home.

2. A group of Navy wives were at Starbucks and the JP's were called. When the JP's arrived, they detained the wives and called the MP's. Oneway ticket home.

Anyone else hear any crazy rumors? Can anyone put a real person to these "actual" events?

New Rumor...

JP's were going door to door at the apartments housing Y-Plates near the seawall to see if people were gathering in someones house. Which is apparently against the Order.

Can anyone confirm that it is JP's that are actually doing this? I mean the order, not having read it so I dont know, is about SOFA status personnel right?

Why would JP's be utilized to enforce the UCMJ?

That would be like asking the MP's to police the Japanese people off base to me.

I think it would help the General to put a screaching stop to these rumours and put out the word and let people know exactly what is happening. Funny thing about rumours, people start to believe that they are facts.

I have seen quite a few posts here over the past couple of days where people were making statements about things that they have "heard" about someone here or someone there.

I'll believe it personally when I see it either on the Japanese television news, in the Japanese newpapers, written up in the Star's and Stripes, or reported on by the Japan Update Newsbot!  :D j/k!

All first year Marines coming out of school should not be stationed overseas. Especially in Japan, until they have completed at least one year in the Marine Corps in a state side assignment. Iraq and Afghanistan excluded. Any Marine that has had serious disciplinary action taken against him within the last 24 month, I.E. a Gunny busted to a SSgt, should also be barred from duty within Japan. Just a thought.

I heard Chilli's on KAB was so crowded on one night over this past weekend, and everything was rather chaotic, like getting what was ordered correct, that many customers were compted. I do not go there that often to know, but that place has always seemed like a zoo to me, not just because more people are forced to dine on base.

Not to debunk your rumour here, but if even 1% of them are true there must be a bunch of 747's lined up at KAB to take these people breaking the lockdown back to the states like taxi's.

Don't know about the starbucks, but on Saturday (during the marathon) I was talking to a fellow mason who is the legal chief on a major Marine Corps base. He told me that on last Friday, he had to do the paperwork to send a family home.

Apparently they were eating at Rose Garden (?) on 330. After they family had eaten and were paying for their meal, the owners (not American) called the MPs on them...

Straight from legal. Its one thing for some of us whom are above the law to go out and break it, its another when the locals decide to take it upon themselve to mingle in our business.

I definitely disagree with their poor decision making skills, don't get me wrong. They're idiots!!! I won't tell you that they were O's. But what good did it do that business to turn in their own customers. This is an internal issue, and I for one don't think they should be minding our business. They wouldn't like it if the tables were turned. And I'm sure they are quite often "turned", like when they're on base... Just venting.

well hard to believe the manager of rose garden would turn in a family unless they pissed him/her off. they have a big american clientel and i'm sure they would not want to lose the business. Unless they felt that they would get in trouble for harboring a criminal:D

If this turns out to be true it is so wrong on so many different levels. I think the mp's were wrong as well for responding to the call too.

I would strongly suggest to anyone in the military that they stop going to the Rose Garden and let them feel the pain of having less customers.

One thing I would add, purely as the devils advocate, they may have been thinking that the Military here has be mingling in the affairs of the Okinawan people for the past 60 plus years that turn about was fair play.:cursing:

Japanese Police stopping Y plates checking to see if they are obeying a military (not Japanese) restriction. Military police (or maybe Black Ops?) raiding off-base businesses for violators and sending them ‘immediately’ on a flight back to the US. I call BS to a lot of these rumors…Hey I have an idea!!!

New rumor…I heard that the military is spreading the rumors through readers forums in order to keep everyone scared enough not to violate the restriction. DK you need to investigate!

Seriously though, people need to obey the order. Ask for a waiver if needed. If you are still very angry and can’t hold on any longer, complain to the higher ups or your congressmen. Or if you’re a local hire and just can’t stand it any longer..hoard as much money you can, get your resume ready, stock up on as many “privileged items” as you can (for those craving on-base “no corn” pizza, ask Pizza hut to give the pizzas frozen and store them in you freezer you purchased from on base), do everything you can on base until you get sick of it…then quit.

Rumors are just that. I made the mistake of posting a rumor, only to find out that it was just a rumor.

My Lance Corporal network doesn't even have any solid word on this one, and that's rare.

The KVN network is alive with rumors, but nothing concrete. Sounds like rumors are running rampant, while real information is scarce.

A legal challenge would determine the legality of the military order upon US civilians working in Japan. Follow the order, but grieve it in some form. The outcome of the challenge would settle the issue.

Perhaps the ACLU, Amnesty International, government employee unions or others could file suit in Federal Court on Guam or Honolulu?

I know the bigger media circus we make for Dick Zilmer the better to get that clown out of here. Any of those aforementioned org. would be great. This has to end . They tried this in Korea with civilians and needless to say the restriction was lifted because the Gen. up said the threat had passed.

There was some sort of case involving nine Army Corps of Engineers filing suit for back wages because the Gen. had them restricted to their Off-base Housing. Currently the case is closed to the public. Really I think he can only ask that civilian employees to repsect and abide by the spirit of the order. here are the links for this. Look for Curfew Issue (Apr 2005-???)

How ridiculous? Nobody has been sent home.. The military can't move that fast. quit passing on items that you can't confirm.

i dont understand it either. just sitting in my room/friends rooms/the bx/mainstreet is taking its toll: ive developed this twitch in my right cheek lol.

and i just enjoy the exercise atmosphere at work only because its REALLY hard to do maintenance when in mopp2, so we dont

Have you ever been deployed before? This is a joke compared to 179 days of lockdown... no bx, no booze, no car, 6 days a week 12hour+ days not too mention sand, hot/cold days/nights...the list can go on forever
