Funny how house arrest is not one of the rules of SOFA but people who think they understand what SOFA is about think that it is. Last time I checked my contract it did not define being confined to my house as a required task. And no I was not trying hard to get SOFA. I was applying for a job with a company. Big difference.

I made this lockdown better by having food and other things off base delivered to me at the gate. Its awesome having Okinawan friends bringing yakiniku to you!! They brought several kinds of meat, the grill, drinks, and more! Along with sushi, takoyaki, Mcdonalds for the kids, special udon from restaurant, my grocery's, Goya cheese cake and other bakery goods. :w00t:

There is a HUGE difference between civilians and Military.

1) If military screw up, they may still get away with it in Japanese courts if gets that far. They will then be banged up by UCMJ, BUT they still have a job, depending on what the offense may be.

2) If a civilian screws up, It's straight to Japanese legal system and NO JOB.

It happened to a friend of mine. He was aquited of the "alleged" crime But he was gone off of Okinawa within days. I had to pack his stuff up for him. Luckily he landed on his feet back in the US.

Military swore to listen and obey orders, Civilians signed on to do a job. I do understand the SOFA thing, it's JUST not morally correct and it's borderline infringement on my civilian rights to say if I don't follow an order, then Basically I will be fired (from current position). At the very least it should be my company or contracting office "asking me" to adhere to these rules and in turn provide me with recourse that wont negatively impact me (offer me a way out or compensate me to a level I wont mind dealing with the BS)

You see, as it stands, many contractors here are here for a particular position. If they are unable to perform in the position then the company has little use for them (generally).

For me to be held to the same standards as Military, when I am not afforded the same luxuries as Military such as fee medical/dental, unlimited legal. Housing on base (as if I'd want that) is basically hitting me with a double slap.
And make no mistake about it, civilian contractors are treated like second class citizens within the military community the majority of the time.

Anyway, I am aware that Many Military think that contractors make loads of$$ and we should be happy. The truth be told there are some that earn a good bit of $$ but it gets nickled and dimed from us in various ways. many contractors actually dont make as much as people think. If I had a dollar for every time I heard somebody say I must have gotten out and started at $80,000 a year or who thought that was the starting salary for a contractor, I'd be long gone....
