My car was borken into once on this island as well, nothing was stolen. Guess how many time it was broken into once I lived in the states? 6 ******* TIMES! I know crime does exsist on okinawa, but it's not nearly as bad as it is back home.

I realize that i am here as part of USFJ and an "ambassador" while I am here. For those of you that say I am a guest in this country, while that may be true, I am an invited guest. I am an invited guest because an invitation was sent to the service men and women of America on December 7, 1941. I realize that any crime or act of crime is obscene and can not be tolerated, however it seems to me that these crimes are only intolerable when committed by US persons. It seems to me that when Okinawans commit acts of crime against Americans or more recently our children (look it up) it is swept under the rug by our government to keep friendship ties and on the Japanese side no one says a word about how horrible it is or that it should be stopped at all costs to everyone. Truth be told, it is more likely that the real fuss being made here is not about a Marine or schoolgirl, though there is reason, but that the Japanese population is exploiting any and every example of crime they can get their hands on to further make their claims that the US Forces need to leave Japan. Where are the big stories about the good the US Forces do in Japan?
SUMMARY
The fact is that I am not her because I want to be here I am here because the Japs thought it was a good idea to blow up Pearl Harbor and the end result was basically the occupation of their prefectures. When the time comes and we decide we no longer want to utilize this local, I am sure it will be returned to the Japanese. But until then, this is where the US Forces will be located. As for Tyrone, hopefully the UCMJ will prove to be a fair and accurate judicial system for determining his innocence or guilt. Until then he is innocent until proven guilty under the American Constitution.

As long as history lessons are in session I would suggest you look at the Okinawan's role in WWII. I wouldn't lump the Japanese and the Okinawans together when it comes to Pearl Harbor and WWII. Okinawa was simply the chosen battleground/testbed to see what an invasion of mainland may look like. In the meantime 25% of the population was killed and 25% was wounded. They're role in Pearl Harbor was next to nothing. Also, how far do we go back when deciding who gets the fortunate opportunity to host a major US military long-term presence? I would venture to say the Japanese of pre-WWII is a thing of the past and some form of democratization has occurred. If you like being the world police agency then cool police it up. The current military presence in Okinawa and Japan has very little to do with Pearl Harbor...that was more or less acknowledged when we ended the occupation in ~1972. It is a term, a generalization that I have come to occasionally use, which I am borrowing from some Japanese and Okinawan's that I know who use to it to describe a loud, arrogant, stubborn American person that is unwilling to listen to other peoples opinions or comments about anything.

Okay, so I don't agree with this one. I have seen PLENTY of Asian woman that treat their husband like complete shit! They spend and spend until their husband is penniless and then move on to another and are free in giving their "love" to another when the old man isn't around. In reality though this could be descriptive of ANY nationality of woman.

I just want ya'll to know that it is offensive when you and others generalize us dependant American woman the way you do.

I for one love my husband with all my heart and would do the world for him as I know he would do for me. I take very good care of him, our home and our children. I endure the MANY times he is deployed somewhere. I ensure that everything is taken care of while he is gone and he need not worry about anything and be able to do his job.

I just read through this entire litany. missingnc, you have issues with Japanese, and those were obviously passed down to you through family. I also saw this growing up.

Japan bombed Pearl because the US enacted economic sanctions against Japan. At that time, America was pacifist, and the only way to go to war with Japan was to force it to react. Check your history. That is what went down.

I've been lurking for several days. I normally do not post on forums of any kind, but after having just read all 22 pages of this thread I feel the need to say something here.

We've been stationed here for 3 years, and requested to stay for another 3 because we love Okinawa so much. In the time I've been here I've never experienced racism (from the Okinawans) or been treated poorly.
