I was approached today by the BBC by email regarding their intention to do a radio broadcast about the current lockdown, and they are interested in hearing from YOU!

I am a producer for BBC World Service Radio in London. We are covering the US military curfew in Okinawa and I noticed that you have posted quite a few articles on the alleged rape and the military lockdown. I was wondering if you happen to know of any servicemen or servicewomen in Okinawa who are willing to do an interview (they do not have to be identified by name)? It would be no more than a few minutes on the telephone, with our presenter asking for their personal opinion of the curfew.

I would be grateful for any leads you are willing to share with us.
Thank you -- I look forward to hearing from you.

I would be grateful if you could post an invitation for active servicemembers in Okinawa who are willing to do interviews, to get in touch with me by email and let me know how to contact them. I understand the senstitivity of this issue so we are fully prepared and willing to protect their identities and to use pseudonyms when desired.

the interview would actually be for the radio, so we would prefer to record an interview over the telephone. However if some servicemembers are only willing to "speak" by email we could read their comments on air.If you are interested in participating in this opportunity to be heard, please send an email to irene.chang@bbc.co.uk. Please get in touch with her by email and let her know how to contact you! Good luck!

exactly. Enough said - for SOFA personnel standpoint - but as far as locals and non-SOFA/DoD - i think they have every right to speak.

I'm assuming since we are not well enough educated in "Discipline" (sarcasm) then I guess we are not educated in media relations either.

I may or may not send something to them. Just like I may or may not have sent something already to CNN. Time will tell.:D

I may or may not do an interview with them as well, and I may or may not even be affiliated with the military. :D

Last time I checked the military or the government do not sign my paychecks as well. :) Basic civil liberties are being violated here and there doesnt seem to a loud enough voice to carry the crowd of those affected.

I think your right about basic civil liberties are being violated and I hope some of our more educated folks swiming in these forms could help out. I think any form of media to get the word out would be great and this is a good start.

So with that in mind I would start drafting up letters to your elected officals in your respected States and perhaps the ACLU. Some of you would say "Your Civil Rights are not being violated" or "You won't win", my goal is not to win or lose but to get us noticed.

I don't know about you guys I m tired of sitting around in Dick Zilmers Internment Camp for a crime I did not commit.

FYI. I m not in the military, I m a civilian

direct them to public affairs.

Hell no, don't direct them to public affairs! Geesh! What kind of honest interview would that be with a public affairs officer standing next to the phone of the person they chose to do the interview. OMG!

The next time a U.S. reporter wants to get some interviews of Chinese in Beijing on how they feel about the decisions of the leadership, I guess they should first be directed to the government media apparatus to provide the interviewees, or at least so that they could stand near them and listen in on their opinions.

Investigative reporting is about staying under the radar of whatever authority that could put an end to the integrity of your reporting.

If you don't want to fall under the lockdown then I'd make it sooner rather than later. Otherwise be patient, it will be lifted.

It probably will be soon I hope next week, but I have lived here sometime now and my family is okinawian and what they are doing puts a strain on my relationship with my family as well as the many okinawians that I have come to know and love.

All Because some of Dick Zilmers Miscreants could not behave themselves so now I can not take my family out to dinner.

This is my home now as I plan to stay here.

Good for you. I feel your pain. What's even more difficult is trying to explain it to your children.
