Security cameras considered for areas near U.S. bases

Senior government officials are reviewing options on how, and where, security surveillance cameras could be placed around Okinawa military bases, particularly in those entertainment areas where American service personnel gather.The idea was posed by Itsunori Onodera, a Senior Vice Foreign Minister who visited the island following last week’s alleged rape of a junior high school girl.

wow, i think this would just add more clubs to the ban.t list do alleviate more humility between US and Japan relations.

But then again,. the camera might only show a young girl getting on a motorcycle herself, and willingly. So what does this prove, nothing...except the drunken stupor alot of people show out in town, which is just as viewable by your very own eyes. Business would hurt, even if they didnt get banned..because if you know big brother is watching, then people wont go if there is no privacy...especially if they are installed there to act as discipline tool.

Do the Okinawans really want cameras pointing at American hangouts and near bases. The last I checked this is where all their "innocent" girls are cruising the streets. Point them at the legion gate to see who is signing in. That's what they really need to see. Better yet, point them at the entrances of the BEQs (oh yah). Just remember who is hanging on the arms of these guys when they go into the clubs. I can see it now - Oh my GOD! That was my daughter!

Really? What did they forbid you from taking pictures of in chicago? I've taken pictures of buildings and landmarks all the time, and never been harassed. Plan on going back home this summer, better not get any crap for taking a picture of the sears tower or something.
