if you rremember a few years back when a phillipine woman who worked on base cried attempted rape by a marine major, she was a resident alien, the okinawans embrassed her as one of their own. yes she did have a japanese husband, but it was a rape by an american. the editors of local newpapers will 100% run this add because an american was involved.

The Marine Maj was actually guilty and after getting off here in Okinawan,. Relocated to the states lived with his brother on the East Coast. Guess what he did there??? He kidnapped a young Chinese girl held her at hi home and then released her. He is now serving time in the states as a rapist and kidnapper.

Philippine legislators urge prosecution of U.S. soldier for rape
Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at 07:01 EST
MANILA — Philippine legislators on Monday approved a resolution urging the government to spearhead efforts to ensure prosecution of an American soldier accused of raping a Filipino woman in Okinawa, Japan, two weeks ago. Rep Liza Maza said that the resolution has been approved by House of Representatives. "It didn't take time to gather signatures. There was an overwhelming support from colleagues," said Maza, a representative of the leftwing women's group Gabriela in the lower house.
She said the case, in which a Filipino woman was reportedly raped by a U.S. soldier in a hotel in Okinawa two weeks ago, less than a week after a 14-year-old Japanese girl was allegedly raped by another U.S. serviceman there, "would once again prove the perils that U.S. military presence bodes for women and children." The governments of Japan and the Philippines, she said, "must make sure that the perpetrator of this heinous crime is prosecuted and that justice is served."

eele, that commentary was a politically expedient one to make. Like here, there are many Phillipinos who appreciate American servicepeople...and do not think highly of Japanese people.

An update today:
The mother of a Filipino woman allegedly raped by a U.S. soldier in Japan appealed Thursday for support, saying her daughter is determined to press charges.
Appearing in public for the first time, the mother urged the Philippine government “not to abandon my child,” who was hospitalized for a week after being found in a hotel room bleeding after the alleged assault in February.
In May, a prosecutor in Okinawa dismissed charges against the U.S. soldier after finding insufficient evidence of violence and intimidation, the left-wing Gabriela Women’s Party said.
The mother, who identified herself only as Melly, said her 22-year-old daughter went to Japan to work as an entertainer to help her family and to raise money for the treatment of a younger sister who suffered an accident.
“I felt like I was going to die when I learned about what happened to my daughter,” she tearfully told a news conference. “I call on everyone to support my daughter. She doesn’t want to come home because she wants to fight.”
She described her daughter as “quiet, but fearless when angered.”
The rape allegation has rekindled outrage among activist groups against the Philippine government and the U.S. military after a U.S. Marine was convicted in 2006 of raping a Filipino woman at a former U.S. naval base west of Manila, then detained at the U.S. Embassy, not in a Philippine jail.
In a statement, Gabriela said the alleged rape “is a showcase of government neglect and ... of lopsided foreign military relations that the Philippines refuse to stand up against.”

I am sure it is. Of course, it really isn't surprising considering the market for "flesh" on Okinawa.
It's all those "grey" areas like Maehara, Yoshihara and Naminoue that everyones knows exist but do not want to acknowledge!
