Hello all!
I've been a weekly reader of Japan Update for more time that I can remember. It's a weekly ritual for me to visit the site on my Fridays and keep up-to-date with the happenings on Okinawa. Today, I decided to register on the forum and perhaps make some friends that have been or are still on Okinawa.
I was initially stationed there while in the Marine Corps from 1984 - 1988 stationed up at Camp Schwab with the now redesignated First Tracked Vehicle Battalion. I believe it is now called 1st Combat Assault Battalion. I met my wife in Henoko and we rented a few houses there at the time. Our son was born at Kuwae Naval Hospital. We left Okinawa in 1988, since I had separated from the Marines, and moved back to my home here in Pennsylvania.
Due to a death in my wife's family, we had to return to Okinawa for the funeral from December 26, 2006 - January 14, 2007. I simply can't believe how much Okinawa has changed in the almost 20-years that we'd been away. I wish I had a chance to visit more of the island, but I didn't have access to a car at the time.
I wish that I had somehow separated and stayed on Okinawa, but that's neither here nor there. I would like to get a job on one of the bases and return if I can.
Anyways, it's nice to meet you all and I look forward to corresponding here on the forum.
