Did you watch it?

Any comments to make? I personally do not like live concerts. The music is usually not that great. On top of that, I am having difficulty seeing how you justify having a massive concert, in several cities around the world, at the same time, with electrical instruments, light shows, etc... without contributing to global warming at all?

I think there is a news story on this...I shall go look for it!

Found one link here (http://www.emediawire.com/releases/2007/7/emw538344.htm) , but not really what I was looking for.

Here is a quote from the story:

Many environmentalists saw the Live Earth eco-palooza as anything but eco-friendly. This reviewer has a realistic approach. When the trade off of resources for the support of the "movement" creates more waste and exploits people's genuine desire to promote a solution to global warming, then GREEN becomes MEAN.

Let's just do it smarter next time. I realize the 2007 Live Earth promoters may have found a way to conserve water, but not at $4.00 a bottle, forget it!

Here is a quote from a different story:

"There are people at this event who are not picking up their trash," said Clive Hall, a bartender and deejay from Brooklyn, N.Y.

The sad thing is that they say 2 billion people watched this concert on TV...Hello, they used electricity to watch it right? Then all of the trash generated at the concerts around the world. And, many of these people drove to the concerts right?

I just don't see this as being the right approach!

I think it was just a feel-good thing. I really doubt it'll have any positive impact at all. But hey, I'm interested in hearing what others have to say on the matter. I'm sure it was good music.

I personally do not like live concerts.

Nothing beats live. CD's are too perfect. But I really dig jam-bands (phish, etc), so maybe that's why I feel this way.

i think it was more of an awareness type thing. But still lame none the less.

I thought it was a good way to get the word out. Throughout the concert, there were scrolling signs describing ways to conserve natural resources.

Yeah, someone made a lot of money off of this, but the result was increased awareness. Most of the music was not my type, so I wouldn't buy the CD. When they started showing the dime a dozen women singers, I went out and washed my car. :)

I didn't watch the concert, but on MSN, they had a some links where I could watch some of the high lites.

Keith Urban, and Alicia Keys blew me away with their rendition of "Gimme Shelter", an old Stones song. The 12 Girl Band, was fabulous and probably raised the temperature in my office by about 12,000 degrees, and Joey Yung, was just downright awesome.

Genesis, performed flawlessly as usual. I even enjoyed the performance of Linkin Park, even tho I'm more into soft jazz these days.

As far as some of the comments concerning this event goes, they are to be expected. Granted this concert was supposed to raise the level of awareness of global warming, but it will do little good.

All of us, are "too much in love with our toys", to actually make that happen.

i think this thing, even if doing it made things slightly worse..with garbage and all the electricity consumed, is a good thing. Thing is, today's world is all about the media and all about what celebreties do. If they see their favorit artist saying "hey... this is messed up. This is not working. we need to change our way of life." and branding taking care of the planet as "cool" well some people are mindless enough to not think to hard on it and just do it cuz hey, chad or whats his face says its cool. It works for products. It works for the way people talk, walk and what they buy to eat or anything else for that matter. Why not global warming. I'd say atless half of the people who went to it, or saw it on tv/internet or just read about it in magasin will change some of the things they do. In the long run, even if they had to do damage to promot this, I'm sure it will do some good.
Its easy to bitch at the garbage left behind, electricity wasted and all that shit but really. How else would you mass spread a word ? Banners on a web site? in the news paper? Why not from the word of famous people who get attention 24/7 and loooaaads of people want to be just like them.
