View Full Version : Do you ever speak to yourself in Japanese?

DoctorP

Do any of you ever do this? I find that at times I do.

I also find that sometimes I will reply in Japanese, not meaning to. It is always the same phrases though, like: ow, or I'm hungry, or let's eat...stuff like that.

How about the rest of you?

I do, quite a bit, I think, but the words I use most are 'are' (what!) when something is strange,
and 'ittai', mabye more than saying 'ouch'.

I find myself saying angry things out loud in Japanese in my car when I'm driving to work. Well, English and Japanese.

I tend to say "doushiyokana..." a little too often. lol. And naniyutenen. My wife's Osaka friends have rubbed off on me.

He he I find myself doing this too. Whenever I'm hungry I always say it in japanese. Same thing with little stuff like wow and cool.

Nope, I never really talk to myself in Japanese but here it is almost three years since we left and I still find my self replying to people with "hi."

hi or hai?

They would both make you sound like an idiot...but one would mean you need to be committed while the other just means you spent time in Japan! (j/k)

I think I am going to go with "hai". Though the whole need to be committed thing might still apply. :)

I always talk to myself. Sometimes I'll do it in spanish, but I've yet to think it in Japanese...still working on that.

I do sometimes....it's weird. In fact I usually do it if someone cuts me off or doesnt use a signal while driving. I yell at them in Japanese and end up having a conversation with myself..... I'm a freak-show sometimes....

Talk about ressurection... I don't even remember ever seeing this thread before now. heh.

I tend to speak to myself in Japanese when confused or annoyed: nandayo?! eeto... nantoka? e, nani? akisamiyo... nanta kore? chotto! sou ne?

I have not gotten a firm enough grasp on the language yet to even be able to say I have a habit of doing this. :( I do respond CONSTANTLY with a firm "Hai" no matter to whom I am speaking.

Scratching head here :scratchchin:........Umm what the heck does "dade" mean?

Could be because it is 6:25 AM and my brain is not functioning at capacity yet:argh14: and you very well could be trying to say something and I just am too dense right now to figure it out, so I apologize if it is just a typo and I cant read it.....:dead:

I just asked one of my friends what that meant and she said it was either hogan or tagalog. But this is the same girl that I told her I was gonna change my name to Bukkake-san and she didn't get that either. I think it's possible this girl was a blonde in her past life.

There are some very "blondeish" Japanese chicks.

Plus if you don't speak or pronounce Japanese very well, it may be hard for her to know what you mean. My wife says I pronounce my Japanese like a Japanese person but sometimes she still doesn't get it. I've been practicing 8 years and still am far from getting it down. Gambarimasho.

I've heard both home (ho-meh) and homi when spoken to in hogen.

Will i get busted again for spelling hogen wrong?

Shit, I don't want to learn it in Hougan, I need the colloquial, current Japanese term. Already did the local thing.

I was looking for a better synonym than "smell". Heck, I can do anatano homeko ga oiso/nioii.

Sheesh Muku, you probably didn't do any better at getting laid then I did....which explains the purpose of the "dating" series of handy booklets. :)
