According to a PSA last night the station is due to be back on 18th of Feb...of course they cover their asses by allowing the potential for weather or construction delays...either way it should be back soon!

after the tower came down, they contracted a company to put up a new one, and the company would not say it would last, due that the land was sinking. don't know if they moved to a different location or got another company to do it, anyway i'm glad it is coming back on. i only have a.m. in my truck!:thumbup:

Me too, but I stopped listening anyway after they introduced the usual lousy PSA schedule into the news programming, both morning and evening. Why don't they give listeners a break?

BTW, when I e-mailed an AFN person in DC last year what had happened to 648AM and mentioned that it is an important source of English-language information for non-military in Okinawa, the reply was that AFN is for the military and they can't be concerned about off-base listeners, so it might not come back on the air.:cursing:

lol. That is funny. I did the exact same thing, but I got a real polite return. But I don't think I identified myself as non-military -- just a regular listener to it.

I'm still surprised that for as long as there has been a major US presence on this island, that AFN is the only full time english speaking radio station. I would think that someone, japanese or american, would have started one up a long time ago. The advertising revenue has to be there, and with as many people complaining about AFN, you know you would have a captive audiance..

very cool. won't have to listen to limbaugh and schultz anymore. they were somewhat entertaining, but more annoying than not. it'll be nice to listen to country music more often as well. i think it'd be nice for them to have an hour of radio disney type music on am for the kids after school. just thought of it... hmm.

I'm actually pretty stoked myself. Not saying that AFN has crappy DJs, but I am saying that I like options. If they play a song I don't like in the moriinging or something, then I can switch it over to NPR. It will improve my world view,
