How many of you have witnessed the weird phenomena of groups of Japanese sitting in a waiting room (but not limited to just waiting rooms) watching a soundless tv as it castes its hue over them -- as if they are in a zombie-like state? I am not even sure they know the sound is off!

Perhaps they all are reading lips?

Or perhaps the wa in this land, where people are packed in like rats living in such high density, is so fragile it cannot be broken by sound with someone taking the initiative to turn up the volume.

Want to see some astonished faces? Break the wa by grabbing the remote, turn up the volume to an audible level -- then change the channel...preferably to AFN channel 8 (if in Okinawa) if it can get it. If it is a really zombied out group, all the wa disorder will be kept internalized within them. If not, some may give you a timid glance of protest.

Just another social experiment I am providing you with to test -- like I did with the Miyako (http://www.japanupdate.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2422&highlight=Miyako) thread (link provided for the newbies to the forum). Give it a try and report back with how it went.
