The new energy efficient Light Bulbs, that cost more, or the stander old school light bob, that is cheaper?:D

I use a lot of the energy-saving fluorescent bulbs that screw into normal sockets, but I am not totally sold on them for 2 reasons:
1. You can't use them with a dimmer (they do make special ones but they are $$$$$$)
2. They are not 100% reliable. I have had a few just crap out or work when they felt like it.
I would use them in fixtures that are "on" a lot of the time, but not necessarily otherwise.
You know the new energy efficient one's we use at home are actually neon or fluorescent bulbs. They take a bit more time to warm up to strength but they sure last longer.
And they come in various colors and sizes as well.:D

I like light bulbs, they make light.
I think most state laws in the US will be changed in the coming years to prohibit sales of incandescent bulbs. Already a few of them have done it.

They need to work on the design of those compact flourescent bulbs. They're fine for normal lamps or other applications where they can't be seen, but they'd look like a$$ in any decorative light fixtures.

As opposed to the dark I have to agree, light bulbs help to brigten up everyone's day:w00t:
I agree that the energy saving one's dont look the greatest, yet they certainly have made it easier on me having not having to change them as often as I did the older one's.
Recently I have been looking into track lighting. I like the bulbs and fixtures that one can use instead of ordinary light bulbs.

Light bulbs are awesome! The plain ol kind is fine with me, as long as it's bright enough. I hate dim light in my living room, it makes me sleepy. Now in the bedroom, that's different:D

I like the energy eff ones, but from what I remember, they are best if put in fixtures that are left on often for long periods. They take a little while to reach full power as compared to traditional bulbs, but are more eff (duh).
But, if you go in the laundry room once a day and only have the light on when you are getting clothes out or putting them in, and the light is only on for 5 min at a time, traditional bulbs are better for that situation than the EE ones.

Well I think the motivation for this "enlightening" :D thread came from a post earlier today by TP on the thread about One Shot Tattoo (http://www.japanupdate.com/forum/showpost.php?p=56378&postcount=35) :w00t:
Back to the OP. I have always been fascinated by the size and shape of light bulbs themselves, I often wondered why there were never square ones made.

Too funny. Well, he's got a new "pages" long thread on lightbulbs for future enlightenment! Awesome.
I am not going to participate in this thread. No way.

Your right about that...:D I geuss I felt a little cheeky..
But on the other hand, It was a legitimate question.. I have always used the incondecent bulbs, and was wondering if the new energy efficient bulbs where worht anything..

jrock...it all depends on the price you are paying. The average energy efficient bulb lasts about 6x as long as a regular incandescent bulb. So now you have to look at the amount of power used and take that into consideration. Are you going to recoup the cost of the more expensive bulb over the length of time?

I changed over a few years ago at home just for the energy savings. I did the same thing at the shop last year. I installed all new high tech florescent fixtures and bulbs. My friend who is an electrician did the math and said that the savings would amount to 1 months electric bill.

I kinda miss the whale blubber lamps of my youth when I used to practice by their aromatic light the required penmanship on scrolls of payrus parchment.
These days, flourescent bulbs are nice cuz they save a lot of energy otherwise used in whale harvesting.
Time to necromance a dormant thread.....
