Concur with Tony; there is nothing special about this place.

The food is horrible and like DrP said, it's expensive.
They should have made a buffalo wild wings instead.

I would definitely agree with expensive! The service is also very slow normally, even with a mostly empty restaurant. However, I do like some of their food, particularly the mushroom ravioli! And I like their Tiramisu for dessert.
As for P-chan's wish for them to build a BW3's, I wouldn't disagree with that at all! But before they built that, I 'd like to see them build a Chipotle, followed by a Chick-Fil-A

Horrible service!! And like already stated, over priced and over rated.
The place always seems empty, yet you have to wait 30 min for a seat.
Then it takes the waiter(ess) for 15 min before they even bring you bread, and you're lucky if they take your drink order before they run off.
They look like that have 20 staff members all the time, yet only one is waiting all the tables while the others are busy with their thumbs up thier butt.
The food is normally decent if nothing else. Refills on drinks...forget about it. Just walk yourself up to the bar and get it yourself. Then once you are ready to leave you have to wait for your waiter to come back so that you can finally get your bill. Normally you have to wave down some other person to go find your waiter.
We have only been one time that the service was...okay. Normally though it's horrible! I don't really know why we keep going back...glutton for punishment I suppose? Than and we think to ourselves, "Maybe last night was just a bad night...no way they can be worse than last time." And normally we are proven wrong.

Once again, anybody who frequents base eateries should not complain. You know what to expect before you get there.
Even if Chef Ramsey opened a place on base, it would be decent for the first week with a quick decline to mediocrity within a month. It's the base mentality.
These base joints cater to an exclusive class of customer who rarely venture outside of the gates, and to a lunch crowd that have little time to do.

We know not to expect much, well, close to nothing...but come on, ya know?

I know exactly the type of people you're talking about. They are the people in my office that make me ask 'Why did you VOLUNTEER for assignment on Okinawa?' We could definitely make a thread with the specific intent of ranting on them!
As for the base joints 'catering' to a specific type of customer, I disagree. The restaurants were put there to make it more like home for us, and I appreciate that. However, I don't appreciate that these restaurants, because they are here on Okinawa, aren't held to the same quality of service standards that franchises of these same restaurants are held to in the states. I don't think I've ever been to a Mac. Grill in the states and been ignored so badly.

Thats what I meant by "catering". Kind of a bad choice of word but they do do drop the quality due to the custom they experience.

I agree completely! I ate at Mac's once, and the food was horrible. I ate at Pop Eyes on Foster about four years ago. I can still taste the grease. I have not eaten at any other on-base places though. I guess Chilis must be great because the lot is always crowded. :)

i have to disagree. given i would much rather go to capricios (sp), that is the normal price you are going to pay for italian food, and no more priced than it is in the states. as far as the service goes, they are japanese and trying to serve american customers, try getting a job off-base and see what the locals say about that. i personally have cooked for a total of 5 years and know the diffuculties of food services, if its not the restaurant you like... dont go.

I will say one positive thing though....you can make reservations!
P_chan
01-17-2008, 05:59 AM
That's true, Chili's doesn't allow reservations:rolleyes:
DocTurtle
01-17-2008, 06:49 AM
There is a trick to get around the Chili's non-reservation thing. You just call ahead about 30-45 min and let them know you are on your way with "x" people and if you can be put on the list. That's what we always do and we normally get seated within 5 min of being there if not right away.

I called and did that once. I asked if I could make a reservation, and they said no. I was told I could do a call ahead and they would put me on the list. I asked her "Isn't that basically a reservation?"

I don't recall if I've said something on this before or not... Anyhow, MacGrill has never had great service when I've eaten there. A couple of the waiters are good. The food is no better than Denny's. I like the fried mozarella, but how badly can someone screwup fried cheese? I have seen it happen at Denny's though. We've eaten at MacGrill for breakfast before also. It's the same quality as their other meals, but with slower service. That's just us though. We typically only go as a going-away lunch for a friend. We did it once for a birthday, and that was a disaster. The best part about that night was drawing on the paper tablecloth... and the friend cheese.

mccs is bad with restaurants, and business...lol.
pick a restaurant that most people will like..not italian food..lol.
steak
burgers..
IHOP will be great.
outback
and all those good restaurants...
not a place like mac grill....
service over tehre tho...
depends who you get..some people are good...
some people run around..
some people are ignoring..
some people are chilling..
there japanese serving american customers which will be hard for them...
trying to speak a language which isnt their first language...
i want to see you all go to an japanese restaurant..and serve japanese customers..its the smae thing. its hard serving the customers out there...
japanese people are even HARDER than americans..which can be pretty bad.
give it a try..
right now mac grill is pretty bad...though LOL.
o by the way..since i used to work at a restaurant i know the deal..
the reason they cant or dont seat you and you have wait, even though theres many seats open..
because all workers dont come at the same time, theres shifts, and if too many people come at the same time. the server (if thers like 2 or maybe 1), cant take care of them that good, since htey have to take care of a nother customer..and it will take up more time.
so thats why there on a wait, cuz they dont have enough servers at that time.
its a hard process..but work over at mac grill..and you all know what im saying.
its not the deal they dont want to sit you..its cuz if you get sat..your may wait for like 10 mins before your server comes..and 30 mins until your food comes because the kitchen may be crashed..
its a long process...
try it for you self..and see how the restaurant business goes.
