Anyone have any experience with the NTT fiber service? Kojima Denki has some sort of deal through today that ends up costing only $10 more than our current ISDN, and they throw in a 30,000 yen discount certificate for anything at their store.
They just ran an ugly fiber cable right outside my window a few months ago, so I may as well use it.

Isn't NTT fiber the standard on the island? I go through GLBB for my internet service, and I haven't had any problems yet. Service is a bit high at 8000yen/month (2400yen goes to GLBB, and the rest goes to NTT) but it seems worth it.

Steve are you in an apartment building? If you are fiber can slow considerably with an increase in users. Also I am a bit surprised that you are still using ISDN, have you looked at ADSL?
I use NTT Flets Hikari and I have no problems whatsoever, I rather like the overall speed as well, faster than ADSL and "light" years faster than ISDN.
Sounds like a decent deal though. What are the installation fees?

Well, maybe it is ADSL not ISDN. I never understood the difference, but my download speed is only about 1600 kbps. I'm not in an apartment, but we often have 4 computers and a wifi radio connected to the net at once, maybe I need to upgrade my WLAN also.
No installation fees!

Wow your speed is pretty slow there. The other major influence on speed is the actual distance you are from the NTT switch.
I have 3 computers on line and Wii

Well, I think it is ADSL, through Nifty. But that's gonna be history, and the 30K might just buy us a new TV.
I was getting real tired of Nifty's connection often failing on Saturday morning. No explanations available, just frustration. I guess that's when their system gets overloaded by users in Japan.

Like I said I use Flets Hikari and I use NTT's OCN (Open Computer Network) for my provider. I have never had any problems of note, one time in I cant count how many years now, I couldnt connect because of a problem on NTT's side, they came right out and fixed it within 12 hours.
I would recommend them to anyone.
