I like documentaries, and have been waiting for Al Gore's "Inconvenient Truth" to show up here in Okinawa, but just haven't seen it billed yet anywhere here. BUT, today a writer in the Yomiuri Shimbun stated that it was on an extended showing in Japan, speaking as if it has been playing here for quite some time.
I don't know, perhaps it just got by me and I missed it as it popped in real fast and then left a week or two later. Or perhaps it just really hasn't made its way to Okinawa yet. I am confused about the whole thing.
Does anyone have any insight to this? Has the title been changed to Japanese?

I don't remember if it played here or not. I will have to check the video store to see if they have it. I watched it...I'll post my view on it later though.

I really want to see this, and I've been seeing some chipping away at its assertions little by little with scientific studies and reports that contradict it. Is Al guilty of sensationalism and alarmist scare mongering in this documentory?
I would like to think he isn't.

I don't recall seeing it play at the base theaters. heh. Imagine that surprise... The off-base theaters may show it though.

It has already made it to the vid stores, so it won't be playing in theaters off base from here on. Rent it if you get the chance. Quite compelling.
I'll have to check it out. I've never cared much for Gore, but I should at least give him a listen.

I don't like those types of movies. If I want to know more about global warming, or anything else, I'll do my own research. Just too one sided for me, thats why I don't like Michale Moore movies either.

I agree...I thought it was much too one sided, and Gore came across as a nutcase to me!

I read a book recently that refuted claims of global warming. It was a well-written book, and made some good points.
Knowing I lacked information on this subject, I did some research on the scientific studies...measuring green house gasses, stuff like that.
I was blown away by the fact that this had become a political issue. What a crock of shite. It is a serious issue and the proof is in the scientific data, not statements about an 18th century mini-ice age, etc.
I guess my point is that the messenger gets shot a lot, but it doesn't mean the messenger is sending the wrong message. Gore is a nut case, but if they had my ass on TV and got me talking about medical insurance reform, or how additives to beef products are causing early menstration onset in girls, I'd come across as a nut case too.
We are hurting our planet with the combustion of fossil fuels, and our government has done almost nothing about it. Instead of leading the charge, the US trails every other developed country.
How about that CA tax and bonding requirement on hauling used cooking oil?
