Last night, around 8:30 PM or so, I saw the brightest, longest, longest viewable, largest and most colorful ball of fire that I have ever seen in the night sky anywhere. This meteorite could be seen for approximately 5 seconds in the eastern skies of Okinawa. I was with a couple of friends outside talking when the meteorite appeared. One of my friends saw as much of the meteorite show as I did and we both agreed then that we had never ever seen a shooting star like the one we saw last night. Did anyone else happen to witness it?

Nope, but your story reminds me of a meteor shower I saw one time. I know that there is one time of the year that you can see a bunch of shooting stars in the sky. I was in glacier national park once it passed in 2004. Very long and short shooting stars, probably at least 20 a minute on average. Some of them were as cool as the one your describing.
One of the coolest things I've seen in my life:thumbup:

I didn't see it. But like P_Chan, it reminded me of when we used to sit on top of my dad's work van in the middle of a field and watch for shooting stars. Thanks :)

I remember watching a meteor shower with my family in 2001. We sat bundled up with blankets in the back of our truck watching the clear desert sky. I had never seen anything like it with so many falling every couple of minutes. Amazing what a show Mother Nature can put on.:D

Wow, wish I had. I've seen the known about meteor showers, but only once have I a meteor enter the atmosphere, I thought it was coolest thing I'd ever seen. Hope someone on the forum got some pics of it.

I saw a big one as I was going out gate 2 one night. Like yours, about 5 seconds...it was a bright white, yellow, and a shade of blue at the same time. It was so bright, I could make out where it was cutting thru the air..looked like a trail a Jet makes. Very impressive.
