I have been here pretty long, and because of that, I find it strange that I have only visited one shrine here -- Futenma Shrine. I haven't visited it since it was knocked down and rebuilt, though. I have only visited the old one.
I liked it, but maybe that had more to do with the novelty of visiting one when I did. Most foreignors living here for some time also get around to going to Nami no Ue, but since I view most religious things as superstitions and fraudulent ways to fleece people out of their money, only one here in Okinawa was enough for me. Though I can't count how many I visited when I went to Kyoto.
So, which shrines or temples in Okinawa have you been to, and which ones did you like the most or least for whatever reason you can recall? Did you partake in some particular ritual or activity while at the shrine? Share you experience with us on that.
I know some Christians had told me they felt uncomfortable at shrines or temples.

The one near nakagusuku castle and the one down in naha near the "tree izakaya". Used to go to the one in Naha with the family every year for the new year.

When I was on Okinawa from 1963 to 67 I remember visiting Naminoue, Futenma, and Kin, and probably several others.
I put together a video of Naminoue from some photos I collected over the years, it covers Naminoue from 1945 to 1958.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4mO07rYW1o
These Kodachrome slides are Futenma in 1955.

Where are all of the temples located here? Could someone post names and general locations. I've been to Kin, Futenma, Naminoue (Naha), Gokoku-ji (Naha) and the one cheap tourist looking temple near Nakagusuku Castle. I know there is at least one more on island in Itoman. Are there any others anyone can think of? What about the outer islands?
