It is still a while away, but the field of candidates in both parties are basically known.
Before choosing specific candidates that you are considering voting for, or like what you have heard from them thus far, which party do you think you are most likely to vote for in the upcoming U.S. presidential elections?
I will definately vote Democrat.
I am the kind of person who thinks the country benefits from a pendulum swing of parties. I have no problem with a Republican president or congress, as neither do I with Democrat or Independent, but I would hate for one party to monopolize a country's policies for decades after decades, like what was seen in Mexico.
How about you? Do you think you will be voting Republican, Democrat, or Independent?
And if not to much trouble, take a moment to briefly explain "why?"

If a democratic party president is elected, the control will go to the dems. Since it appears we have a democratic house for a few years, it makes sense to vote for a republican pres.
Thing is, which one of those incompetent ^*%*( do we vote for? I'd rather elect one of my friends. At least I'd know I was getting representation and someone honest for a change.
Party politics are diving America. Different subject, but polarization is a problem.
I hereby nominate myself.

Everyone is honest until they hold a public office! Don't count on your friends!
As for me...I'm actually leaning independent at the moment.

dk-I second it.
By the time an honest country lawyer reaches candidacy, he/she owes millions of dollars worth of favors.
"Hell yeah, we'll send our boys in there to get that oil!"
Or in the case of Guatamala in the 50's; "Hell yeah, we'll send the Marines in to get United Fruit back the land it stole!"

Why does that make sense? That is the recipe that could lead to more indecisiveness and gridlock i.e. non action on things that we need to get moving on.
So long as Democratic Congress still performs oversight of the Executive Branch, something the Republican control of Congress did not perform, then there is no reason to say that control of both Congress and the Executive Office is inherently bad for the country.

What makes you think the Dems will do any better? I think that the parties should be done away with. It is a totally ridiculous idea to me. Yes, it worked well at one time, but times change and so do people. Putting your faith in a group of people just because they belong to a certain party is silly. I cast my vote based upon the character of the person and whether I believe that he (or she) could get the job done. Needless to say in the last election I had no faith in anyone!

That's exactly how I felt. I REALLY didn't want Bush to win though.
As for the 2008 election, I really haven't done enough research to say who I like/dislike yet, but, in all honesty, I'd kind of like to see Hillary elected for one reason: It would set a precedent for women to run for election. A woman or a non-caucasian.

But if you vote for Hillary or Obama just because of their sex or race, you are wrong.
IMO neither of them are suitable for the job. I could find a guy working on a loading dock more suitable for the job, but he wouldn't have the millions of dollars necessary for funding the election now would he?
I wouldn't vote for any of them without knowing what they each bring to the table. After Bush though, just about anything would be progress. hahaha.
