Geez TP, you went ahead and closed the fun thread. What's wrong, peer pressure to much for you? When I implied you were having fun, it wasn't necessarily in a bad way. Hell, I am having fun!:first: Fonze, P-chan??? Where art thou butt-snorkling disciples??? Let's have fun here before another "BAM" from TP occurs!

I gave up butt snorkeling for new years.
I would thank you but then it might be considered butt snorkeling. You know, since the thanks button is soooooo important and leads to the forming of cliques:rolleyes:

Be careful how you describe us or the Thesaurus brethren might use it against us. Here is "clique" from thesaurus.com
Main Entry: clique
Part of Speech: noun
Definition: friends
Synonyms: bunch, cabal, camarilla, camp, circle, clan, club, coterie, crew, crowd, faction, gang, in-group, insiders, mafia, mob, organization, outfit, pack, ring, set, society

You know whats stupid about these accusers of clicks. It is that just because we have all been moderated, nazi stlye by tp and we all direct stuff toward him they make us seem like a click.
Well to me it seems like the clicks of butt fudgers are actually those that come to his defense. He is a big boy and can handle himself. We (the click) all have issues with him so i see why you guys think we are an alliance but actuall you guys are the one because you guys run to his defense.
I also like how NBTP and Ammo respond to TP cause you know how i would.

I enjoy messing about online a lot too, but basically I want to spend my time in exercising my mind, at least somewhat. Sorry if I put anyone off by writing full sentences, but remember I do not use a thesaurus. I make most of my living by writing, so it comes easily to me and I don't usually try to dumb it down.

I don't have a problem with your posts, but it is apparent when you DO dumb it down, or ask questions when I know you are aware of many answers to it.
I am not ragging on you. I don't use a thesaurus or a spell checker either. I also avoid cut and pastes as much as possible, since I assume one should own one's post. Your posts also are owned by you, and that's a good thing.
You did butt snorkel Paul's Creative Writing tips post over there. As if we all didn't receive that sage advice in Eng. 101. :D And when you respond to those two, your posts take on a boorish tone. :barf:

Well, thanks. Actually there were a few tips in that post that I could be reminded about - I usually go back and forth with my sometimes editor (an Indian lady) about commas, for example.
When I ask a question that looks like I know the answer to, maybe you mean putting my idea in the form of a question so it doesn't seem like I am 100% sure of the answer. It doesn't shut down the discussion that way and helps keep the conversation flowing, and I am always open to other opinions, preferably ones that show that the person is thinking for himself, not just parroting others.
What days are you planning to sell that chili?

31st to the 2nd. This was one of those things where I am sitting with a friend enjoying way too many nama, and I volunteer for something.
I don't know how the customers will view my chili, but we thought having something different from the usual fare of yakitori and rice-based bento would be a plus.
He'll have some well-known bands there towards the end of this week, and I believe up to New Year's eve. I don't plan to stay sober and laddle out chili all night. :) We got sober people for that.
Also, I have been drying some peppers (the Thai) so I will be harvesting the seeds and getting some starts going if you want them. You can grow a good crop in a pot. I'll order some other seeds as well, and I'll let you know about them.

OK, we'll maybe wander up that way, since we don't seem to have any plans for the break. I recently ended up with an extra packet of nice Cambodian curry powder I might use as trade goods.:star:

I never use curry powder for Indian curry, but I thought the Cambo. stuff smelled like something I could never find the single ingredients for. Have you ever had "amok"? Popular, very mild sort of curry dish, usually with fish. I had no clue how to use the curry powder, I just fried it with the fish and onions a little bit and added coconut milk and it tasted pretty similar to amok. Maybe some shrimp paste would be good too.
Wooo. Looks like winter is finally here!

Amok is exactly like Thai red curry. (A chef from either Cambodia or Thailand would argue this of course) We make it with galangal, onions, and red chilis made into a paste. At this point, I might add a bit of fish sauce and/or dried shrimp paste as well as tumeric. Lemon grass makes this a Thai curry and not a Cambodian one. This is then fried in very hot oil. I add a bit of coconut milk, then water to consistancy. The lime leaves are added later as it simmers.
The differences between Asian curries is very miniscule....at least to this white boy. :)
I do have a supply of curry powder from Malaysia that speeds things up, but it's more fun to make the curry from scratch.

We probably shouldn't be cooking down here in the trenches:barf:
The Cambodian amok goes very light on the red chili, but I do like Thai red curry too when there is cold beer available to douse the fires. Where do you get galangal? I used to have some in big chip form but must have tossed it out.

We have it smuggled in. :D There are a couple of ingredients which are hard to get. Last time in Malaysia, I bought lots of stuff from farmers. I spent a day in my hotel with plastic bags and the iron trying to make everything look pre-packaged from a reliable source.

Ya we had Carne asada with beans and mexican rice on Christmas eve. Then on Christmas day we had Pozole and Homemade Tamales. Then the next morning we made Chilaquieles. Moles we buy from the commisary cause i dont know how to make them. My family was the type that sat down the men to eat first and never let us in the kitchen. I just learned since i came here cause there was no grandmas or aunts to make food for us.

Awesome!!! As you can see in this thread, OkiSteve and I were talking about different chilis and Asian foods. I wanted to branch out a bit into Mexican foods. (real foods) I do make my own mole sauce for my chili- but then chili (con carne) is a mix of SW/Mexican cuisine, not exactly Mexican.
By the way, we had Indian curry on Christmas. :) Anyway, cool you learned to make those foods! :thumbup1:

In my opinion, there is no curry on Okinawa. :D The instant Japanese curry is....well, instant, but tastes "okay." But order any other Asian curry (there are hundreds) and it has too much coconut milk, and not enough chili, no lemon grass. It's bogus.
Same as Mexican food I understand. (I gotta get me a tortilla press)

Uminchu,
There is an Indian curry place way down south, close to the children's dinosaur museum. I can't remember the name as we went a few years back with some friends. I'll have to ask the wife tonight if she remembers the name. It is suppose to be a popular place...

Japanese curry is a comfort food, nothing that ever really wakes up the taste buds. There's a pretty good little Indian curry place near the Sakurazaka, off Kokusai dori, and another larger one on Kokusai.

Ok guys, but what am I going to do? Make my own curry which is completely authentic, or drive half way down the island to get curry that is made for the Japanese pallet? :)
I did run into a great place in Rhoppungi too. Soon, we'll master nan. We almost have it. (difficult to make)
I have a large walk-in pantry. 1/3 of it is dedicated to curries. (I know, sick)

Awesome, na(a)n. I made some for a party this year but is really was a lot of trouble. If I had a real oven instead of the leetle convection oven it would be easy though. I've made it in the states. Afghan naan uses part wholewheat and other flours.... yum.

A friend of mine desribed how to build a naan oven. I could use the same one for tandoori- however it's a giant ceramic thing.
The problem we have is getting the correct amount of oil on the dough between the layers to get that flakey aspect. We did do pretty good on the last try, but now we are trying to get the shape correct.
