Does anybody who lives off base pay the NHK fees?

I haven't seen those people in about 3 years and I never paid it. I know they had a big scandal awhile back. I was just wondering if anyone still pays for NHK or not?

Yeah they come around to collect about every 2 months or so. Recently my wife got caught off guard and gave into the friendly looking old man that came to collect. We'll be moving soon to another apartment or house and don't ever plan on paying NHK ever again. I'll put a sign outside the door or install laser cannons if I have to.:D

I think we paid once in 4 years. My wife (Jp) has some issue with them and tries to dodge it.

It's a weird system what with sending the little old guys around to collect. When I lived in England they had vans with antennas to see who had a TV set (not everyone did back then) and if they found a set and matched it to not having paid a license fee, you got a hefty fine.

I haven't seen those people in a long time but I was thinking of getting cable TV(OCN) installed but it would be under my wife's name. My friend who got OCN said that after she got it the NHK people were hounding her twice a month.

Those people are a little wacko in my opinion, the one time they came they told me I have to pay and I told them I am Sofa status and I don't have to pay and they said the american down the street payed it. I said ok but I don't have any money on me right now. They said ok we will be back tomorrow. Never saw them again.

I used to just say "AFN!" over and over again along with "American TV" :D When my wife opened the door this time around and he started talking to her it was already too late for my tactics.

When I lived in Yomitan they used to come around...I never paid. In my current house I have never seen them at all. I wouldn't pay it though.

I haven't seen these people for a very long time but watch now they will be showing up tomorrow. Murphy's law right.

I was also thinking of hooking up a BS/CS dish because you can get Skyperfect that way. However when I was talking to the lady at Yamada Denki and she said if the NHK people see that they will be knocking on my door in a second.

NHK people

Ok so who are these people. Of course I live on base. So I don't think I need to worry about it. But now I am curious since I was thinking of moving off base.

I never had them come to my door and I've never heard of them. Of course I know what NHK is but I don't know about the old men they send out to collect money for something. Someone please explain!

NHK the is the television broadcasting company.

Here is what every household is supposed to pay.

If you are SOFA you are not required to pay it.

The whole system is a joke, basically the GOVT decided to put some of the costs of funding this TV channel on anyone who owns a TV regardless of whether or not you watch the channel:-|
Never saw one yet, have looked through the peep hole and seen a guy with a clipboard and a suit though,But I only open the door for the mail carriers.
Wonder if you have a TV in your car will they make you pay for that also!?
