Gluttony season is here, soon to be followed by New Years Resolutions.

This is totally beyond my technical ability, so someone please help. It would be interesting to have a thread "Do you know your Body Mass Index?". I'm envisioning a link to one of those BMI calculator sites where you enter your height and weight and it calculates BMI, and then a JU Poll format where people can anonymously "vote" their BMI range, maybe using single-digit ranges or double digits, for example "22.1-24.0", 24.1-26.0", etc. The poll results could be displayed to look something like a bell-shaped distribution.

We could do it in January and then a couple months later to see if the Resolutions worked...:thumbup1:

I never make resolutions about eating...I don't eat that much anyway. But if you want to see a bell curve, just look at me! It's the beer, not the food and I am not "even" thinking about making some resolution about that.

Now that I got more pills, I don't have to worry about my diet at all! Better living through chemistry! :D

What kind of pills would those be?

I know what you mean about the beer. It goes straight to my waist. I think the leftwing brewing industry is adding calories to beer to kill off the Joe Six-packs faster. Same with cigarettes.

cholesteral. (sp) The doc said I'd need to have a vegan diet to get it low enough with my other medical issues. I'm okay without the meats, but give up eggs, milk and cheese? And with cooking as a hobby? No way!

Brewing beer is a heck of a cool hobby, speaking of hobbies. Since those breweries are in the business of making money, they have to be right wing nuts. :D

Any places that sell brewing supplies on the island? I'd give it a shot just for fun.

Me hobby cook too. I can just skip the cheese recipes now, but it was hard. The shredded stuff they sell here isn't very good anyway and anything good costs an arm, leg and right nut.

Seriously: what about the BMI Poll (dk?)

A good friend just finished a batch the other month...'twas a fine, hoppy ale. I'll see where he gets his equipment. I do believe he orders some stuff from overseas from time to time.

As for cheese, try...

Part of the problem is Japanese beer. Check the can of many popular brands. Corn starch is a major ingredient, used as a partial replacement for malt barley. It's cheaper, but it gives a significant boost in calories. That's one reason why happoshu's are high in calories (though they do have diet varieties where your drink is further chemically altered, and not in a good way). I have read that Guiness is one of the lower calorie beers, partly due to their use of all natural ingredients.

I was never very good at the whole new year weight loss resolution thing. I always felt bad if I didn't lose enough weight. So each new year, I simply resolve to be happier than the year before. Yeah, it's one of those warm fuzzy resolutions, but it's so broad that it's nearly impossible to not do at some point during the year. :D
