Anyone have a local source for HP inkjet refill kits or just the ink?
You can turn this into a discussion of the pros and cons if you want, but I have good luck with refilling but just ran out.

Deo deo has a good selection of ink refills...but your best bet is online stores...esp if you bought a US version.
Goodwill sells refill kits that you can do it yourself. I've used them before, and they work ok for 2-3 refills...after that, if you are not cleaning the jets then the cartridges seem to start leaking.

No local sources Steve, but as a printer repair guy here for five years, I ordered everything from "Printer Works." I can help you with the address if you want to ship to FPO.

Thanks Uminchu -- if there are no local sources, I'll order some off EBay (I don't have FPO/APO). Last year I got some from Hong Kong. The ink itself was OK but I didn't like the "works". Actually all I need is a nice-sized bottle of black ink because I have syringes, etc.

Hi,
Your post said you repair printers here on Okinawa. My Brother MFC 5840CN has a mechanical error that Brother confirms needs to be taken to a authorized service center. Of course there are none in Okinawa. Can you repair this printer? Or, do you know someone who can? Is it worth repairing or should I just buy a new one?
Thanks

I "used" to repair printers. Your printer can be purchased new for less than 100 dollars. In general, all inkjet types of machine will have issues after a couple of years.
I would say that you are better off replacing it. I don't know what is wrong with your machine, but chances are, the parts required will approach that figure, and the labor will exceed it.
FYI- I use a laser jet printer-easy to repair, superior B&W printing. I use a separate scanner. If I need color printing, I will take the work somewhere and get a higher quality (i.e. wax printing) job done.
