I've been really happy these last few months because SanA has started carrying soy ice cream. I had been wanting to eat this for the longest time, and now I can -- I do, quite often now.
It is called I.V. and comes in those round cups of one serving.
Tastes great -- just like regular ice cream. Have any of you had it here in Okinawa yet? Have you ever had soy ice cream?
Give it a try. I recommend it.
Look for these in SanA:

Never had it, but I love soy bean milk so I'll definitely give it a try.
Bring some to my house sometime. Come meet the kid!

I think I'll stick to my sweet potato ice cream. I like it and it's nice to eat on a hot day. Everyone says they can taste the potato in it..but I can't.......weird.

I'm so depressed by this, but oddly intrigued. It seems so against the whole ice cream thing. It seems like a betrayal of all I know to eat it, because I'm the daughter of an ice cream man. I'm just so curious though! Gah!
I'm the daughter of an ice cream man.
You must have had a TON of friends growing up.

Some bad news, and more bad news on the soy ice cream in the OP:
First, I had made a mistake -- they are not in SanA stores. They are in MaxValue. Sorry if some of you had tried to find them in SanA
Second, my wife said it looks like they are going to discontinue the product. She went there the other day and there were only 2 left and that the spot they had reserved for them on the shelf had a new label for a new brand of ice cream. She said it looked like they were being phased out.
I will give you all the soy final report when we confirm it in a few days. Stay tuned and keep checking back for more info as it develops.
Hope we are wrong. Kinda bummed.

I like and use soy milk, have for years, but I have yet to find a good soy ice cream. I actually think soy milk tastes better than regular milk.

Do they really have Silk brand soy milk on Okinawa? That's the brand I drink.

All of the non dairy frozen deserts that I have tried do not measure up to the taste of ice cream. Like many things you have to acquire a taste for it. If you are lactose intolerant they do provide an alternative to ice cream.

Breyers has a Lactose Free Ice Cream. It pretty good but its only in one flavour.

That brand of soy ice cream I have highlighted above in the OP tastes just like real ice cream. No diff whatsoever.

I get it at the Camp Courtney Comissary. I dont know if the other ones carry it but you could always ask them, to get it for you.

I've seen it at the Kadena commissary also. Is it any good? I'm a bit lactose intolerant, but love ice cream. I can usually handle a scoop every few weeks though.

Many find that if their blood chemistry is balanced milk sensitivities are often eliminated.

How do you balance your blood chemistry? I was always Lactose Intolerant, but I knew that I could have pure milk or ice cream maybe once a week. Then when I first got pregnant, my body totally rejected it:barf: But went back to normal after I had my son. Then along came my daughter and its worse I cant even have one spoon of a McFlurry without my lungs ready to come up.
Maybe you can tell me how to do it so I can have other flavours instead of just VanillaBean that Breyers makes.

Yeah it pretty good. My 4yr old puts strawberry quick into it. Even my husband eats it and he isnt Lactose Intolerant like we are.

I will see if I can find an internet based site for ya.
The thought is that your ph or mineral balance is out of whack so when you expose your system to certain consumables your body improperly reacts due to your chemical composure.
One example is:
300 people that do a squadron function
210 eat the potato salad and 75 of those get food poisoning....
the thought is that it was possibly a chemical reaction in their bodies or that they are predispositioned chemically to get food poisoning since all 210 that ate the salad did not get sick.

I found a frozen non dairy desert that is very very close to ice cream. It's called Tofutti. It's creamy, the texture is like ice cream and the taste is similar. Best product that I have found to date. :old:
