I've been kind of lazy in the literature department lately, and I'm wondering if anybody has any good suggestions for a decent book.
Sure, I could go and look for the bestsellers of the past few years, but I'd prefer something a little offkey, a departure from what everybody loves.
Any genre will do.. but I kind of want to avoid authors like Tom Clancy or similar writers.
The whole "Man vs. World" thing pecks away at my very soul. :-|

Ken Follett: "Pillars of the Earth".
Once you've finished reading that, "World Without End".
They are by the same author, and I read the second book first, just because nothing else seemed worth reading at the time from the title of books available at the BX/PX.
:eek:These books are huge, more than 900 pages.
If you like "The Hobbit", or the "Da'Vinci Code", these books are a "Must Read".:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Thanks very much for the suggestions.
I found Pillars of the Earth at one of the libraries a few minutes ago and I'll start it in a few more minutes... and probably read for the rest of the day. Sure would rather be at home right now.
*Sigh*

Hey ...Movie,
It starts off kind of slow and boring, but I wouldn't be surprised if you went in search of "World Without End" after you finish this one.

Oh, yeah!!!
Robert Ludlum, has been one of my favorite authors for years!!!!::thumbup:
If you have not read "The Road To Gandolfo", you might find it interesting. It starts out on the premise that the Pope has been captured and, is being held by terrorists for ransom. But he has a twin brother, and the Vatican has decided to deceive the public by replacing the captured Pope with his twin brother, instead of paying the ransom."
Years later, Ludlum wrote "The Road To Omaha", as a follow up. And in my opinion, it was as hilarious as "The Road To Gandolfo".
Both of these books compare favorably to Josef Heller's "Catch 22".

I have been reading a Chinese classic Journey To the West. Its one hundred chapters and pretty interesting read.
I've always liked Ray Bradbury. Everything he writes is worth reading. Arthur C. Clarke is another favorite of mine.

Used to like anything by Kurt Vonnegut, as well.

Yep, Kurt Vonnegut is great too, but he fills a special niche. Ray Bradbury is more of an all-purpose writer for me. He does everything.
