I wonder what his PSA level was? There are those with a normal PSA who have cancer and there are those with a high PSA level that do not have cancer. They need a better test to screen for Prostate cancer. Even if cancer is suspected a biopsy may or may not detect cancer and it is a very painful procedure and carries some risk.
