I heard that friday night the Kadena BX had a 50% off the entire store sale, does anyone know if this is true?
I also heard that it will be closing for construction of the new one. This will blow cause that means the foster one will be completely swamped all the time.

I heard something about a night sale, but I don't remember the details.

If this is true, I've missed out on some good deals. Pretty sure that if they did have a sale, it would only have applied to the already discounted items that they were not able to get rid of during previous sales.
Also, I'm pretty sure that the old BX at Kadena, will not close before the new one has been built. But there are some road closures involved.
Another thing to keep in mind, the Camp Foster/Kadena exchanges, are the two biggest on-island. So during the holiday season, they will see a heck of a lot more traffic from people living at other bases over here.
Still searching for "19 Red Roses", since our "19'th Wedding Anniversary" will be on the 19'th of this month.

The BX is supposed to remain open during construction...Once the new building is up they may close the existing building though.

I thought they were building around and up on the BX. It is suppose to be two stories. So, they are building a new one completely?

Yep, brand new two story building.
It's about time too. The current BX was already standing back in '75, although it's outside has changed a lot since then. It's probably cheaper to replace the old building with a new one. No idea what is going to be up on the second floor. My guess would be a food court, and vendors. I can try to find out though, I have a lot of Okinawan friends who work there.:D

If you like it over here, you can always try to extend your tour of duty. Just be sure to do so before it's time to fill out your "Dream Sheet". As justification you could use "for the good of the service". Money is tight these days, and if you have high EPR ratings, it usually works.:D

Yeah they already denied my extension:( Which amazes me because our shop is undermanned and there are two openings listed for our shop. I might go to korea, that way I can at least get back to japan once I'm finished in korea, I'm not sure yet.

The 1st floor will have a food court with 9 choices and a bookmart like the one foster had. It is going to have a barber and beauty shop and cell phone shop and one other thing. then the second floor will be 165,000 sq ft of retail, compared to the 115 the store has now. I read it in the paper.
Thats a stupid idea to me because that means your gonna need a lot of elavators and then carts are going to be a pain to bring up. They also better make escalators like the ones at the Toys r Us building.

Thanks Fonze,
But that actually makes some sense to me, in regards to the layout. Have the vendors on the bottom floor, as well as the food court. Take care of your basic needs, have lunch, go up to the second floor to shop.
Only need a couple of escalators, a couple of elevators.
This would also be a good opportunity for everyone voice their opinions on what magazines, books etc, would be available to local customers. I'm an avid fan of C.P.U. (Computer Power User) magazine. So if enough people voice their opinions, perhaps we can actually enjoy some publications that we've enjoyed reading, vs some of the trash on the stands today.:thumbup1:

I just think it's funny that they can pay millions of dollars for a new PX when we have service members getting issued old gear, shortage of rifles, government vehicles, it just makes no sense to me.
Keep the damn PX we got and use the money on new gear.

Two completely seperate pots of money. I agree with you 100%, but the military is retarded as you know Im sure. If it requires common sense, it will be done wrong.....
If the military actually wanted to be more efficient, they would all combine under one umbrella and utilize the same equipment. Why does each of the services have to have their own seperate EVERYTHING?? In the past several years all the services each spent over a million dollars testing and coming up with their own personal version of PT gear...that is retarded!! Come up with one set, then make them in the colors of each respective service...how friggen hard is that? Why does each service need all different uniforms? We should all be using the same working uniforms and have our own dress uniforms for tradition.
Anyway, this has nothing to do with the new PX/BX/Exchange...whatever.

50% off entire store, haven't heard about that. I do know on Tuesdays at the BX, they have Bell ringer specials and everything already on clearance gets marked down extra 50% off, but you have to hang with the group and listen to everything. I got some really good deal in the electronics. Clearance items that were 50% and 75% off got an extra 50% off, thats the best deal ever!!! I just brought my friends in there to look, I wasn't planning on buying anything. My brother will be happy with his free entertainment center, video camera, clothes, and shoes I got him!! I am also hooking up some of his friends with stuff.. all my friends over here I already hooked up!! Well I still have 2 toshiba dvd player's that I only paid 11.00 for each.
I went to the PX one night, the manager said tv's for $900.00 over intercom, (I thought he said $900.00 off) but he said he is marking down 2 TV's for $900.00, so I got a 46" LCD flat tv. A good deal for saving over $2400.00. There was only 2 to choose from with limited quanity's, but well worth it!

Just so you know...they are still giving out coupons for gas until the 20th...spend $75 and get a .15/gallon coupon. Not a lot, but it helps!

Ya ive already got to of them and saved $1.50. I felt really bad on the first one cause I must have got it before they told the gas attendents cause they were looking at it for like 10 minutes and didn't know what to do. I had like 12 people behind me and felt kinda bad.

That's true, another reason on the long list of why I got out of the Military.
It's semper I now LOL

The word "PRESTIGE", comes to mind.
Bear with me, but it seems to me that a lot of us old timers out there took advantage of the educational opportunities available to us at the time.
We went to school, got the additional degrees, but there were some who felt that with their acquired education deserved a more impressive "Job Title".
So along comes the "Command CMS", etc...
All of this, started happening in the mid '80's, and it continues as I type.
More Defense spending, is being wasted on taking care of our dependents, as compared to weapons acquisition, or testing.
More tax payer dollars are being wasted to ship the things that keep us comfortable, as opposed to what we really need to survive.
If you doubt this, take a look at what's available to you today. Walk around on any base, and try to find an American style of restaurant/fast food establishment available to you.
When I was over here back in '75, I had to go off-base to visit MacDonald's, there was a chow hall, a movie theater, and for everything else I had to write mom and dad. Please send me some Kit-Kat bars.

They also had to walk 15 miles to school with no shoes on, and it was up hill BOTH ways!:p

The BX/PX free holiday christmas catalog has 20.00 off coupon on the back when you spend a 100.00 dollars well worth looking for! They had some in customer service area and I am sure if you look around else where you can find one! So if you plan on spending some money you get to keep a 20.00 in your pockets! Happy Holidays everyone!
