My folks are visiting & my dad is really big about fishing! I'm wondering if there are any fishing spots anyone can recommend or if there are any fishing activities that will not cost an arm & leg! Also, he'll need fishing gear. Help people~!

Zanpa is a pretty good fishing spot, but if you don't have any poles I don't think spots are going to help you much. If your looking for a charter I could recommend some, but don't know how much your arm and leg cost.
Probably the most inexpensive way to do a boat trip would be to get a boating license at Kadena Marina, rent a boat and some poles from there and try and find some fish.

I like taking the little one to fish at the Oki zoo. I wouldn't recommend it for expert fishermen though.

You could always get some cheap, middleweight surf poles and fish Mizugama off the wall along the Hija River...

If you've got $100 and want to cut the old man in on some thrills, get him on a charter. It's a little rough out there now but the tuna and mahi are running. I wish I wasn't busy because I'd go and fill my freezer again. It's not a bad deal because all the gear, bait, and fishing lore (aka fish stories) are included.

yep, im pissed.. i missed out on a trip last weekend. they pulled in some pretty big tuna. Hell there were tuna so big that they were making 15lb katsuo run like they were mahi.
I go out of Awase port a lot, so again, if you can get at least 6 people together and can affored to spend at least 10,000 yen a person I can hook you up with a charter.

You can join an open charter (see schedule) for $100 pp. Also inquire about a half day charter for about half the price.
There are other possibilities but the info can be found in fishing gear stores locally and you have to speak Japanese.
Or you can purchase basic fishing gear for $20-30 plus bait and do shore fishing. Local fishing stores will even rig the gear for you. Pick a spot near you where you see some local guys casting off and have a picnic.

I cant say anything about captain Billy.. but I know the captain I go out with (american) is supper helpfull. there is no added costs plus with 7 people its actually less than $100(plus with the exchange rate its even more.). Plus we leave at about 5AM and wont pull back into port till 4-5 in the evening.. so you definatly get your money's worth..

My folks came & left. We did not go fishing at all because my dad was in poor health & the cold would not have been good for him. Just wanted to thank everyone for their replies. I'm sorry I forgot I posted this for awhile. Thanks again!!! (",)
