Hey Fonze, before you guys leave, get a statement from your local car insurance place stating you have been insured for XXX time and have had no accidents or claims.

Sometimes that helps when you go to the US and don't have any record of US coverage. $$$

Will do. I emailed them about my status also because we are going to be in CA but i have a Nevada DL and was wondering if it would cost more because of that.

I have used GEICO twice with no issues, and they were cheaper than most of the competitors for me...

Used Geico for years until we switched to Progressive.

You can get a quote online right now from several companies. Go to www.progressive.com. Progressive shows you the lowest quote even if it's not theirs. You may need a US address and the orig. VIN. plus your D/L.

heh. I don't think the duck offers car insurance. I was in health/life insurance for eight years in CA. The duck was all over that, but not so much the car thing. i think it's hard for them to drive with the wings... no finger-like things for gripping the steering wheel. ;)

Hey Fonze, I've tried many many insurance companies and I'm now with AAA. I'll tell you something, they may not be THE cheapest but they're very close. If you have an accident or any problems, man, they really bend over backwards to accomodate, where as many other insurance companies just try to make you jump through 50 hoops because they don't want to pay.

Somebody broke into my suburban about 3 months ago, and I was sent to an "approved" AAA body shop. Long story short, those guys were almost kissing my ass, making sure everything was perfect so they wouldn't lose that "AAA approved" status. And while it was in the body shop, a AAA rep called me like 3 times, making sure I was happy with how things were going. I'm sold.

A lot of the other cheapo companies seem to be run by retards.....you'll spend 10 min. on hold, they hang up on you....you get "minimum wage service". I was ready for a whole bottle of blood pressure medicine after dealing with them.

*BTW, Geiko and Progressive were MORE expensive than AAA*

I've had a few different insurances stateside for my cars, and AAA by far was worth the money. :thumbup1:

Hey Fonze, I'm a long time customer of GEICO, and I've never had a problem with them. Loved their Caveman commercials back in the states.:D

One thing I liked, the rates are kind of high when you first start out. When It comes to to renew, and if you've had a clean driving record, the rates keep dropping every time it's time for a renewal.

By the time we left Florida, we paid 60% less than when we first arrived.:D

Had to purchase a new policy once we arrived over here, not sure what the name of the company is. But for full coverage, it's costing us $1000.00/year.:(

Once I find a job on base, I'll probably switch to USIAA. We've used that company for many years here on Okinawa, and it's probably going to be a little cheaper. On the other hand, we're driving a brand new car, not something off of the Lemon Lot. But even a savings of a couple of hundred bucks a year would be appreciated.
