dk, on JU`s main page there is the list of that week`s stories. What would be great to get JU`s customer audience plugged into the JU community would be if you had a link at the end of each news stories that says "Comment on story" and that would direct them to the News and Politics section. It would also have to automatically fill in the title space as to that of the same as the article. If a person wants to comment but had not registered yet, then they would have to do so first. But, if a person is already registered, they'd just have to sign in.
I think this could help the forum build a good base, and one made up of people interested in discussing Okinawa/Japan related issues. Of course, after they have registered to join, they would probably branch out and participate in other parts of the forum.
So, it would look like this:
Yellow dust from China again blankets Okinawa
Date Posted: 2007-05-31
For a second time this year, dangerous yellow dust blowing to the east from China has descended on Okinawa.
The very fine sand, often described as nearly invisible dust, is an annual problem as strong prevailing winds carry the it from China’s desert eastward across the sea to Korea and Japan. The yellow sand causes respiratory problem, forcing people to stay inside or face potential health problems.
The winds brought the yellow dust to Okinawa Saturday, well after the normal February~April normal trouble period. The island first experienced the trouble-making sands this year May 17th~19th. The sand permeates clothing, blankets automobiles and fouls windshields. Visibility is reduced to below eight kilometers as the sands float through the area.
Weather officials had expected the rainy season to dampen the effects of the yellow sands, but mother nature has not been cooperative in bringing the expected heavy monsoon rains yet. Comment on story
And that would direct them to the forums.
I really want the JU forums to grow back to their former glory and put those other Japan related forum sites back down in their ranking. The hard copy and on-line main page of JU surely can make that happen. Connecting the news stories to here could play a good role in accomplishing this. I don`t think just the link to the Forum listed on the side menu in the Home is aggressive enough in doing that all by itself.
