I always wanted to open a little breakfast joint like a diner back in the States. Nowhere here really serves breakfast. I want to open one up so what do you think?

I'll have some lunch items too but breakfast items all day. Pancakes. waffles, sausage, bacon all the good you know.

That's what Oki needs you think?:first:

Bacon, steak, and eggs sounds good to me. I miss that. Are you going to charge $3.50 for a meal like the old trucker restaurant right next to my apartment in Ohio? :D

I think it's a great idea. :thumbup1: It'd have to be near an American base though. Japanese aren't big on the steak 'n eggs breakfast. heh. It'd also have to be open early in the morning like 0300, especially on the weekends when waffles and hot wings sound like a good idea after a night of drinking. Yeah, I never really understood that concept either, but it happens at Denny's a lot. The big problem I see would be cost of product. To draw/maintain a regular customer base, the prices would have to be kept low.

There used to be a great pancake house in GC just south of MCAS. I think it closed in 1980 or 81. They used to serve a great crepe suzette though and yes, we hit that sucker every time we were out until day light. It was popular with us gaijin.

I was just thinking....I met the owner of Manila Bay once and don't know if anyone knows him, but that establishment would be the perfect venue for a breakfast joint on Gate 2.

Definitely!! A waffle house or a Pancake house would be great!

There are very few coffee shops that open early in Oki, if you want to eat
breakfast out there is only Macdonalds!

Plenty of places are still serving peanuts and rice crackers. :D

Great idea I think on the weekends you would make allot of loot early in morning when everyone is coming back from being out all night

Me and buddies had the same idea... We were thinking about a Waffle House. We were even going to trailer park white trash, teach them Japanese and fly them over... that way, it's just like back home.

I think that you can by into that franchise? I'll support ya... every weekend... pecan waffles, that's all I ask

I've been politicing my friend to open an IHOP or Waffle House here...not much luck so far, but he has listened intently each time I brought up the subject...so who knows?

IHOP= "International House of Pancakes"

What's so "International"? it's a joke.. i know that they are in other countries beside the US... I know... I don't need a list

I guess some of their pancake styles are international.. like a French style pancake that sneers at you or a Japanese style pancake with corn on top.:D

Try for a "Denny's", doc.

IHOP used to be good, "The Waffle House", forget about it. The last time around, while traveling in the states, the best place to eat was at a Denny's.

Better tasting food, less money, better service.

As far as an American Breakfast is concerned, you would be hard pressed to beat "The Tee House", on Kadena.

The food is okay, the service is excellent, and what a view!!!

The Rose Garden, located just down the street from Plaza Housing (going towards Camp Foster), is another favorite of mine. Just wish that they would get a bigger coffee maker. Excellent service, the food is good, company is good. 3.5 stars, out of 4.

A much better bet for a business, would be ferrying drunk drivers home, at a competitive price.

LOL  I never thought anyone would say that Denny's had better tasting food. You should sell that as advertising to them, dude.

keeping prices low is not a good way of keeping business. yes it helps, but enviroment, quality is more important than price. Japanese really don't care the price as long as service is first and catchy to the eye. Price is important mostly to americans first.

Heh, heh, I know what you mean.:)

But the last time we went to an Ihop for lunch down in Florida, the service was lousy, the food was awful, and it was expensive.

They used to make some pretty good pancakes many years ago, tho. :thumbup1:

Breakfasst joint here? Are you cooking? I would really lilke some french toast it sounds so good right now...If you are cooking I will be right over!!!

If you or anyone was to open a breakfast joint, I wouldn't care about price, just as long as the portions were the right size for the price. As long as you served french toast I would be there daily!!

Yeah, I was telling the man about this thread and he is all for ANYONE going through with this. It would be a good money maker and you will definately be busy with the Americans. However, you have to keep close to the big hangouts. Advertise the shit out of it so then everyone is aware of you during the day, not just at night. Serve every breakfast item you can think of and keep it reasonably priced.

Didn't one of our local gaijin business barons try this very idea a few years ago on Nakanomachi-dori? Never went there, so I can't comment on its success or lack thereof.

Peace,
