Region lock on Wii (get around?)

For future reference I was wondering if there are places here in which I might be able to "unlock" the region restrictions of my Nintendo Wii (Japanese ver.)
Mailing it out somewhere or going to mainland would be out of the question of course :)

Not too worried about it now but I haven't seen any Madden '07 or '08 games out there yet :D Doubt I'll find any American Football games out here in Japan:(
Why are they still region locking game consoles and DVD players? Really what's the point?

There is a lock on the Wii? The only thing I can think of is to get it modded, which I don't even know of anyone who does that yet. I was hoping they did to the Wii what they did to the DS, and make it region free.

I think the whole reason behind region coding is because certain DVD's are released at different times in different countries. It's all about the $$$.
There are serveral different ways to get around a lot of this stuff though.
I do know that you can mod the Wii though. I personally don't know how, but I know it can be done.

Yeah. from what I've been reading it appears that Nintendo made there games region free. It was left up to 3rd party game makers if they are going to keep their games region free or not. I noticed that EA doesn't seem to make Madden games for the Wii yet at least not here in Japan. 360, PS3 and PSP and Game Cube seem to be good to go... Maybe they're holding out on Wii for a reason... I dunno. I just hope they release some Madden games and that new Medal of Honor Heroes 2(which is already out for Wii in the states)
