Sports has often been referred to as a war or battle. The parallels are undeniable. Move into enemy territory, control the ground or air and score (i.e. make a kill or up your society over the other at their expense ultimately).

What kind of warfare would you say describes particular sports?

I think the easy one would be that:

Football --> trench warfare

How about other sports and warfare? What parallels in description of warfare do you see?

This idea may have sprung from the famous quote by the Duke of Wellington:
The Battle of Waterloo was won on the playing fields of Eton.

I agree with the sentiment expressed here:
The essence of all competitive sport, including boxing and fencing, is that it’s a civilised substitute for real hostility. Because it’s conducted according to rules, sport sets us above savagery. And the sports’ rules that mark such important boundaries must be patrolled by the criminal law.
