View Full Version : What do you fear most?

My biggest fear is becoming poor, falling through the cracks of society and becoming homeless.
My second fear would be losing my sight.
How about you?

well I'm already poor, spent the last 6 months wondering where the rent money is coming from - it is not that scary, you just learn to live with it.
Living the rest of my life alone - that would be one.

I wouldn't call mine a fear. I can do it I'm not terrorized by it, but I don't like to do it.
That would be to put my hand into a dark place that I can't see whats inside. Like a small box or something.
That I'm somehow making a HUGE mistake when I'm writing code that's going to be the end of me.
Yeah, you try writing some credit card software. It's not fun. :( lol.

I think that is why I have my phobia. I remember my mother sitting at the dining room table in tears every month with bills in front of her and wondering how she was going to keep us in the apartment. I wish she would have made sure not to cry over finances in front of us. I think it has affected me.
Living the rest of my life alone - that would be one.
That used to be one of mine. But the older I get the more introspective I get, and introspective lives don't need too much company. But, still want my wife to be with me as long as possible. Though, I am almost pretty sure that if I outlive my wife, mine will be an ending that is solitary.
Just hope they don't find me already dead for a year on the sofa in front of a blairing TV like that old dude in the U.S. several months ago.

I think my biggest fear is one most men face...the fear of being a failure in providing for my family. As long as I can provide the basic needs for them, I am okay. Not that I don't aspire to do and have more, but should I ever get to the point where I could not at least provide the basics, I don't know what I would do. Aside from go crazy and probably downward spiral into deep depression.

I think losing my ability to think for myself would be my biggest fear. Having to rely on someone else to do EVERYTHING for me. I wouldn't be able to go on like that, at least I wouldn't want to.

I am currently in this situation. I just cut out one of my sources of income and am now in the process of finding a new one.
My wife told me yesterday I couldn't have anymore beer money. Awwwww lame.

I'll go with....#1, providing for my family and a close 2nd, becoming more and more dependent on my family for this and that. I already have this long-running joke with my kids, always telling them I'm "superhuman".......maybe that wasn't such a great idea. I'll probably just descend into a gibbering, toothless old fool in a wheelchair, still bugging anyone who'll listen.....telling 'em I'm "superhuman".\:-)

Spiders, even small ones, and also cockroaches.
I guess also never becoming independent from everything and everyone and/or wealthy. If I have to work for THE MAN for the rest of my life and then retire on not much more or less salary than what I'd been used to. I'd still be happy and positive as always, but it would probably be more like a reverse psychology sort of happiness.

When I was a young child, my family and I lived in an area where we had to take out the trash to these huge barrels. Trash was burned once a week.
After a big family gathering, my mother decided it was too dark for my brother and I to walk the trash to the barrels, she asked us to do it in the morning.
The next morning as my brother and I walked to the barrels, I felt tiny legs on my back...I tried to brush away what it ever it was...but as I continued to walk, the feeling of tiny legs was all over....so I dropped the bag of trash and started to inspect myself. OMFG!!! I was covered in ROACHES!!! I ran and screamed....I was a mess for days.
If I see a roach now...I run for the hills!
I have tried to overcome my fear...it doesn't always work for me, especially if they are big and they fly towards you!

I'd imagine this is what you fear most, TP:D
Imagine aliens landing on earth announcing once and for all that we're not alone in the universe, only to find out they aren't vegetarians. Oh no its much worse.

Medical mistakes....similar sounding drug names confused, pharmacy mistakes over illegible handwriting by docs, misdiagnosis, surgical errors, that sort of thing.

I fear dying and leaving my teen daughter without a mom. My mom died when she was my age and I was my daughter's age. Irrational fear probably.
Also, deathly afraid of flying.

Oh my GAWD!!! I am scared of roaches too!! My dad (love him to death, but) we grew up out in the county next to an empty field and would get the occasional BIG roach in the house. My dad would catch them and chase me around with them. HOW could he have thought that was funny????? :crying:

She won't give me 1,000 yen for a bento. She's a stay-at-home mom, so I have no excuses hehehe... BUT, I do get taken out for beer/awamori by the JU boss quite a lot, so I can still get my drink on. Just not as often as I'd like.

Um, yeah. I hate to say I've had a couple in my house. I keep my house VERY clean, but I am guessing it was built in the 1970's. (It's on base). But almost worse than those, right now I am dealing with these little tiny roach-like creatures that seem to hide during the day and come out at night. I know this because when I get up in the middle of the night to get a drink of water or wake up in the morning to turn on the kitchen light, I see one or two on the counters. :barf:
Talk about the HEEBIE JEEBIES!!!!!!! Since we only have about a month left in this house, I have decided against fumigating. Don't want to take the time to cover every thing up and find a place for the cat to go in the interm. I bought a bunch of roach traps and placed them in inconspicuous places in the kitchen. Please, please, please, please, nasty roaches, go away and never return!!!!

Isn't that an awful feeling? I have a sister that is three years older than me, and get this, she refuses to get a conlonoscopy (my mom died of colon cancer and so did my grandma) due to the fear of what they might find!! I have to get them every five years. So far so good. But as irrational as my fear might be, I think my sister is actually paralyzed by hers. It makes no sense that she wouldn't want to be proactive, but yet, she's too scared to be.

Those roach traps they sell here really work. If you still see any signs of them put some more out or switch brands.

Speaking of fears, you know what's funny......it's kinda messed up, but.....I told my wife that I saw on T.V. about rats and snakes that come up through the sewer system and actually come up and out of the toilet water, then climb out the bowl.
I could see the images flashing through her mind at light speed. OMG, you talk about funny!!!!!
"But don't worry, honey......what's the chance of that happening?" Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.......ahhhh, it's the simple pleasures of life.
