I can not stand my neighbors. We live on base, and nobody watches their kids on my block. Well, not everyone..but you get the point. I have scratches on my car from kids riding their bikes into it, kids climb on my car...but yet, apparently we are the bad ones, because we told the parents to watch the kids! And we were very nice about it.
One of the parents acctually said, " what can I do when they are out here playing?" (mind you, the child is about 2-3). I said, " Here is a new concept that all the doctors, parents, paremedics, and neighbors are all raving about....trying watching them!" I mean come on, who lets little kids that small run around by themselves?
I feel like I live in a trailer park, and I seriously hate trailer parks! I'm sorry that I like my house clean, paper not thrown in my yard, and my kids playing at the park, not on someones car....I guess that makes me a bad person!
I'm sorry, I'm just venting. It's just one of those annoying things that I have to live with. At least I should be thankful not all my neighbors are like that!

Well there actually is a base regulation that lists a chart by age what children can and can't do without supervision. If there is damage occurring, I would call the SF, MP's or whatever and make a report. I will see if I can find the chart.

Ohmigawd... you are so right! A friend of mine is guilty of this. Her son is eight and can more or less take care of himself outside, but she doesn't check on him often. She has a baby to take care of in the house, so doesn't watch the boy. The boy is as much a terror as most boys at that age unsupervised. All we recommend is to check on your kids every 15 minutes or so, when they're playing outside. So many stay-home parents are just glad that the kids aren't underfoot, so they can get things done in the house. Sigh...

Call Family Advocacy on their ass. They are worse than the police and will make the families life a living hell. Then move off base. You have a choice.

If you see a 2-3 yr old outside alone CAll the MP's. But I feel your pain, its worse here because we live in the Towers so when the older kids, come out its like ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE. And parents cant see what they are doing.

I agree with all, there are age rquirements for the kids to play by themselves outside.I suggest you contact the MP's/SP's.If it were your child they would do the same.

I know it can be a frustrating situation. I think the parent should be out there with the kids...Mine is six and hell I wouldn't let her go outside alone. And the scratches on the car and the kids getting on your car...damn I would be Pissed off too.

Now if that was my kid getting on top of your car and you came and told me...hell I wouldn't let my kid go outside until lesson learned. "Sigh" sometimes parents can't admit that their kids are at fault at situations like this. "Sigh" I hope things get better!!

Thanks for the info on who to call...this happens on a daily basis here...I'm just frustrated with the whole situation. Especially, since we are the bad ones for saying something.

I thought about letting my kids out and climb on their car to see how they liked it, or my teenager and all his friends hang out in front of their houses and be loud and rude like they are...but I just can't bring myself to trailer trash level.
They are just the perfect example of why people think bad of military spouses...fat, loud, don't take care of the kids, or house (the yard is horribe, grass a foot high...nasty)...just freakin' hillbillies!!!!:cursing:

Oh, now you're just generalizing. Shame on you. Some hillbillies aren't fat. They're too poor to be fat. ;) heehee. Afterall, it burns a lot of calories to walk up all those hills to a cabin in the woods. And they're just loud because you have to holla' fer the yungins' who're out huntin' rabbit in the woods. :D LOL (having a rare chipper moment... :p)

We are lucky enough to have good neighboors on our floor, but the people below us are a different story. We constantly hear their base bumping and feel it through the floor. We have gone down and asked them nicely to keep it down several times and even left a sarcastic note once say, "Hey, we think you have a great sound system, but next could you at least invite us down so we can watch the movie instead of just listen to it?"

My neighbors are slowly getting better, and I think the two worse offenders have moved out. But there is still at least 2 neighbors who have no regard for anyone else well being.

I heard an interesting theory about that. The guy said that a lot of poor people tend to be fatter than rich people, and that it's their poverty that encourages being overweight. Going out to movies or restaurants and having a night out on the town can be really expensive, especially if you want to eat healthy food and snacks at restaurants. Poor people tend to buy cheap snacks and stay at home to watch TV. Much cheaper. If they do go out, it's straight to McDonalds or to buy more junk food. Junk food is cheap and easy to get. Cheap entertainment.

Relevant to most impoverished, welfare type folks in the US, but "hillbillies" are so poor they actually hunt fer thar food, like them thar bunnies and coons. ;) I'd throw in the not wearing shoes and sportin' overalls bit, but that does describe a lot of neighbors on base, so the joke is then reality... a sad reality, but reality nonetheless.

(eelcurb, curbing the haha out of funny for 500 posts. :P )

Wow! Talk about a misunderstanding. Do you think I was picking on you? Not at all. Just relating an interesting theory about poor people and fatness I heard from a friend. No doubt some hillbillies are too poor. I should know, as I come from hillbillie stock.:D

p.s. Have you ever eaten home-canned squirrel?:w00t:

No, I didn't think you were picking on me. Just rib poking at each other. I've yet to try squirrel of any kind... but, expect to be forced to once we move to Texas. My husband has a whole list of things for me to try that normal people wouldn't eat unless it was the end of the world. sigh. I'll be stocking up on alka-seltzer, Peptobismol and Tums... :barf:

I have alot of neighbors who allow there children to play outdoors all day in the summer months with no supervision all day! It is so sickening to me that these kids are at high risk of serious injury with the way they play! Also my neighbor allows her 3 yr old daughter to go outdoors alone and doesn't even bother to check on her! She goes out into the street and welcomes herself to play at everyone's house! One evening a neighbor was fed up and called the MP's to report the mother and told them the girl was outdoors for 3 hours and no one has bothered to check on her and it was already dark outside. The MP's never came and my neighbor took the little girl home and cursed the mother out! I just don't understand what is so much more important than supervising your little one's.
